I am a certified GMGA mountain guide from Tbilisi, Georgia. I started climbing in 1995. I am a professional mountaineer and for years I was a member of the Georgian Mountain Federation national team and also of the Georgian Rock Climbing Federation.

I started guiding after graduating myself at the Mountain Climbers School in 2000. I am also a fully certified GMGA guide (Georgian Mountain Guides Association School). I have climbed mountains in different regions, like in Caucasus, Pamir, Tian Shan, the Alps and Alaska. For years, I have been taking hundreds of tourists from all over the world to climb different mountains (Kazbek, Elbrus, Tetnuldi, Shkhara, Ushba, Danali etc.). I speak: Georgian, English, Polish, Russian.

Climbing Mount Kazbek is a must if you’re visiting Georgia! Join me on this magical 6-day program and discover this amazing Georgian landmark.

Mount Kazbek is located in the eastern Caucasus range. It boasts an altitude of 5,054 m.  It is a mysterious mountain, which is locally associated with Amirani, a culture hero that resembles the classical Prometheus. Additionally, there is an Orthodox hermitage in the “Betlemi” cave where Amirani was allegedly imprisoned at an altitude of 4,000m. This makes it a truly unique mountain climbing location.

On this 6-day program, we will have the chance to enjoy the stunning trek up this peak while also going by some amazing historical landmarks. Some of the places we might visit include the small town of Mtkheta,  several ancient churches, the Jvary Pass at an altitude of 2395m and the small town of Stepantsminda. You can find a detailed program below.

Of course, climbing Kazbek will require you to be physically fit. Also, keep in mind that temperatures drop to very low levels even in the summer and can reach -10°C at the summit. However, I will make sure that you are comfortable and well-prepared to enjoy an unforgettable trip!

We will meet in Tbilisi at 10 Am in front of the Bicycle Monument near and from there we will have a Transfer to Stepantsminda.  170 km. 3-4hour driving. On the way, we will visit Mtskheta and Ananuri fortress. Overnight in Guesthouse. (Dinner)

Tbilisi - Stepantsminda

Transfer to Stepantsminda – Sameba Monastery 2200m. After Breakfast, at around 8 am we will drive you to Monastery Sameba (40 min driving). Then we will walk to “Climbing Georgia” BC (3650 m). Approximately 6-7 hours of walking. Accommodation in Tents (2 people per tent). (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Acclimatization – walk to 4000m (or higher depending on weather snow conditions, etc) during which time we will practice skills necessary to climb to the summit (rope work, ice axe, etc.) Overnight in Tents (2 people per tent) (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Acclimatisation

Start at 2 am and walk to Plato (4500m) – for 4 hours approximately. Plato to Saddle (4900m at 30 degrees). From Saddle to Summit at 40- 45 degrees, use ice axes and fixed ropes. Return to “ClimbingGeorgia” BC (3650 m). During the walk from 3900m to the summit and back to 3900m, the group will be roped due to crevasses. Overnight in Tents (2 people per tent). (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Summit Day

Reserve the day in case of bad weather. Overnight in Tents (2 people per tent) (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Extra day

Mount Kazbek climbing tour from Tbilisi (6 days)

On this 1-week adventure in Bakhmaro, we will experience the best pow in Georgia on a tailored catskiing program designed for you!

We will begin by picking you up from Tbilisi or Kutaisi airport and from there, we will drive to Chkhakoura, from where we will take a snowcat to our lodging in Bakhmaro. The following day, we will begin a 6-day catskiing extravaganza that will take us to discover the best pow in the region, day in and day out. We will set off in the mornings and return in the evenings, adapting the itinerary to the weather and snow conditions. By the end of our adventure we will have unique memories to take home with us.

This catskiing tour is for experienced skiers with a good fitness level. Although we generallly don't do any ski touring on this kind of program, it is recommended that you bring some skins, and of course, if you're interested in ski touring, don't hesitate to ask!

Pick up at Tbilisi or Kutaisi airport and transfer to Bakhmaro.

We will take a minibus to Chkhakoura (From Tbilisi, 325 km and a 5-hour drive, from Kutaisi airport, 80 km and a 1:30 hour drive).

Once we reach Chkhakoura we will take a snowcat to Bakhmaro (1-hour).

Transfer to Bakhmaro

We will enjoy 6 days of catskiing from the morning to the evening. On average, we will have around 8-12 runs (3500 – 5000 vertical meters) in all kinds of weather. We will enjoy lunch out in the wild and take it with us in the snowcat.

Because the Bakhmaro region is quite wild very often we will discover completely new places where no one has skied before. On day 7, we will finish skiing earlier than usual so that we can take the minibus to Tbilisi or Kutaisi. Overnight in a hotel.

If your flight is in the evening, we will organize a 3-4 hour cultural guided tour in old Tbilisi / Kutaisi.
