1+ day Riding in Hakuba with FWQ snowboarder Yumiko Ohta

I am a Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) athlete, ranked 47th in the world and 4th in Japan. Therefore, I always seek the best locations for snowboarding, being Hakuba one of my favorites.

There are many reasons why I choose Hakuba. First, it has an ideal location, it lies very close Nagano, in the Japan Alps. It’s only 44 kilometers from Nagano City, and 270 kilometers from Tokyo, in the island of Honshu. So it is highly accessible, as you can arrive here by bullet train, local train, bus or via the Narita Airport.

Also, Hakuba hosts some of the best ski resorts in Japan. Each resort has unique features. So, we could explore different ones, living a completely different adventure each day of our trip. Some of the resorts we can explore here include Cortina, Happo-One, Hakuba 47, Sanosaka, Goryu, Jigatake, Tsugaike KogenIwatake, Kashimayari and Norikura amongst others. But, I will make sure we choose the ones that best fit what you are looking for.

Furthermore, the weather conditions in Hakuba are simply amazing, as it receives 11 to 13 meters of snow. Hence, there is always fresh powder snow to ride through. Moreover, the rugged mountains that rise over 3,000 meters cover the terrain, offering breathtaking sceneries, visible from every slope we’ll take.

Finally, Hakuba is a vibrant town, with an exquisite cuisine and fun nights. Don’t miss the opportunity to relax at the onsens, traditional japanese hot springs after a full and exciting day of snowboarding.

Please note I’m not a ski instructor or mountain guide. So we’ll stay within the ski resorts. Our trip will focus on having fun snowboarding together.
