Description

This 2-day Cerro San Gabriel south wall alpine climbing trip is a demanding adventure close to Santiago de Chile.

The Cerro San Gabriel (3128 m) is one of the most iconics peaks in the region of Cajón del Maipo. It's located near the road, so it has an easy acces. Plus the south wall is an amazing granite rock, which makes it very famous among rock climbers.

The normal route is a nice day hike with amazing views of the Cordillera de los Andes. But we'll take the adventurous path!

The program will start with a two hours approach hike that will leave us right under the big granite wall of the south face of the mountain. There we'll have a 400 meters, 5+ climb to get to a bivouac terrace, where we'll spend the night.

The next day we'll go through a ridge to the summit, where we'll enjoy some of the nicest scenery in the Chile's Central Zone. Then we'll go down through the normal route.

So if you are ready for a serious challenge in the Andes, request to book this 2-day Cerro San Gabriel south wall alpine climbing trip and let's start planning your next amazing adventure!

About the guide

UIAGM/IFMGA Mountain Guide from Chile

Mountain guide and instructor from the Chilean Andinism Federation (FEACH) and certified Wilderness First Responder.

I’ve opened several climbing routes in Chile, and was one of the first and very few Chileans to summit Cerro Torre, Fitz Roy, Paine Grande and Torres del Paine.

I climbed almost all the technical mountain in Cajón del Maipo, in Central Chile, and did some of the most important routes in Yosemite, Indian Creek and Patagonia.

And regarding ski mountaineering, I skied down Mount Illimani and Huayna Potosí in Bolivia, and Cerro Castillo, Morado Norte and Sur in Chile.

Nicolas is an excellent guide, with incredible mountaineering knowledge and technique (which was particularly worthwhile during our expedition when we encountered harsh winter conditions). His english is also very good. In short, I recommend this mountain guide.

Nico was an incredible guide. I wanted to ski the canaletas in Cerro Arenas and he was excited to take me there. He knows Cajon del Maipo like the back of his hand. Afterall, this is his backyard. He has spent decades skiing, climbing and exploring this region and his knowledge of the terrain and weather is very impressive. His english is good as well, and he is a really nice guy on top of all that. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a great ski mountaineering adventure.

My trip with Nicolas was perfect. He catered to my climbing preference and the hot springs at the end of day was exactly what we needed. I would definitely do it again! Thanks Nico for my first experience in climbing in Chile!

The guide did not know the route. We spent a lot of time trying to find the route. The climbing itself was good.

I was really disappointed with Casa de Guias. It was not a terrible experience because Casa de Guias had found a wonderful guide and assistant although they did not know them (allmountain guide). As to Explore -Share I don´t intent to buy anything. I will write a full description of what happened by e-mail.
