The Small tour of Oisans is a 6-day tour for medium level hikers. Perfect if you want to hike in medium altitude mountains with a light carriage.

During this tour I will lead you with perfect knowledge of the massif.The variety of the landscapes is impressive. In fact, we will see from high mountain glaciers, to alpine meadows, going by mountains forests, high altitude lakes, rocky walls and waterfalls.

The accommodation will sometimes be in comfortable lodges in traditional valleys. We will also spend the night in warm mountain refuges in beautiful locations.

A taxi will carry your luggage from lodge to lodge so that you can travel light. You will only have to carry it when we spend the night in a refuge.

Itinerary

Day 1: Maronne - Rosai - Sarenne Gorges - Sarenne refuge (1999m)

We meet at Bourg d’Oisans and transfer to la garde (1031m). Then we start the hike to the high meadows of the Sarenne pass, almost 2000 meters high. A beautiful trip through the mountain environment.

Day 2: Croix de Cassini (2348m) - Clavans le Haut - Besse en Oisans (1564m)

The Croix de Cassini is a belvedere offering incredible views over all the surrounding high summits. We will also be over the Ferrand valley, where we will spend the night.
We will traverse the Clavans le Haut village later during the day. It’s a small jewel of the local architecture.
Our final objective for today is the village of Besse en Oisans.

Day 3: Besse en Oisans - Mouterres refuge (2258m)

Today we go to the magnificent Emparis plateau. Here there are around 20,000 head of cattle. There are breathtaking views over the Meije glaciers (3982m). The marmots will join us all along our day.

Day 4: Noir and Lérié lake (2450m) - Mizoëns (1186m)

Today we almost not ascend. We will actually explore the plateau with the two lakes. Then a descent by the waterfalls takes us to the small Clos refuge, where we can stop for an afternoon snack. The traverse of Mizoëns makes us discover a fascinating world of flora and geology.

Day 5: Taxi to Champhorent (1584m) in the Vénéon valley - Lavey refuge (1797m) - Bèches lake (2401m)

Today the landscape changes dramatically, becoming more rocky. Today and tomorrow we will be in the Ecrins National Park. Once we reach the refuge, we will go up to a small glacial lake (optional). It’s an extra effort but the reward is definitely worth it!
D +383m (to the refuge) or +1000m (to the Bèches lake)

Day 6: Saint Christophe en Oisans (1446m) by the Souchey and the Granges

This last stage is in a meridional ambiance. A wild itinerary where we will see flora specific to the warm side. The freshness of the beautiful forest will protect us from the sun during the hottest part of the day. We will go along the Vénéon before ending with a short ascent to Saint Christophe.

For 15 years the Alps have been my playground. I am based at the doors of the Ecrins National Park close to Bourg d’Oisans where start the famous “Tour of Oisans”: wild trekking alongside glaciers and high summits.
I am qualified to supervise hiking and snowshoeing.
I’ve been dedicated to the mountain life since I was 12 years old. Currently, I am 48 and I practice with passion a lot of mountain activities: hiking, snowshoeing, mountain skiing, mountaineering and climbing.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
