Description

Take a ski touring trip to Hakuba in the Northern Alps of Japan and experience the thrill of long runs! From untouched powder and big, steep lines, this program promises to give you the backcountry vacation of a lifetime!

It is no secret that Hakuba is home to world class skiing and snowboarding. With pure snow, immense mountains, and a culture that caters to these natural delights, it is a prime location for snow adventurers seeking an experience that they will remember forever.

Inside the Nagano Prefecture on the island of Honshu, it has become a Mecca for snow enthusiasts who want an Olympic-caliber experience. It offers every type of run, and the snow quality is truly remarkable.

Experience the thrill of conquering vast mountain slopes and delving into deep powder in the Northern Japanese Alps, renowned as Japan's ultimate skiing and snowboarding destination. Hakuba unquestionably lives up to its reputation, boasting the country's largest and steepest mountains.

Our guides possess over a decade of firsthand experience navigating the slopes of central Japan, endowing them with an intricate understanding of the local mountains, weather patterns, and indigenous culture. Each guide is extensively trained and certified, immersed in the field daily, and possesses comprehensive knowledge of the terrain and prevailing conditions.

The optimal conditions in Hakuba are historically during January, characterized by cold temperatures and consistent snowfall. As the year progresses, the potential for rain becomes more pronounced, introducing a vulnerable layer within the snowpack and escalating the risk of avalanches.

Tailored to cater to proficient intermediate, advanced, and expert skiers and snowboarders, the Hakuba Backcountry Package offers an abundance of terrain and snow suitable for all levels. Our accomplished guides, certified by ACMG and NZMGA, ensure that each group experiences an exceptional day, optimizing the adventure for everyone.

We will travel throughout Hakuba Valley to ensure you ge the most out of every run, and every line. The backcountry snow is deep and plentiful, and it really is unique to Hakuba. Our access to backcountry areas as well as those from the resorts will give you free reign to appreciate every inch of powder. And this paradise will last more than a week!

This program has a lot of steep touring, so you should be in good shape and have a high level of fitness. Intermediate and advanced skiiers and riders will get the most out of this trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Hakuba

On the initial day, our van will collect you from Hakuba Station during the afternoon. Subsequently, we will journey to Wakuraba Lodge, allowing everyone to comfortably settle into their accommodations and indulge in the personal onsen facility available on the premises, providing a relaxing respite after your travels. Following this, a communal dinner awaits at the lodge, creating an opportunity for us to acquaint ourselves and conduct a comprehensive overview of the forthcoming week's plans.

Day 2: Safety First

Prioritizing Safety! A comprehensive safety orientation and thorough training in rescue procedures will adequately equip you for the upcoming week. The initial day will be comfortably paced to assess your abilities. It will likely involve a tour beyond the ski slopes, followed by a rejuvenating soak in a natural hot spring known as an Onsen. Dinner will be enjoyed at one of the numerous restaurants within the vicinity.

Day 3 to 7: Backcountry Skiing and Ski Touring

Each morning, breakfast will be served at the lodge before we embark on our skiing adventures! Utilizing lifts at various resorts in the Hakuba Valley, we'll access the backcountry with optimal snow conditions. After our skiing endeavors, we'll either return to the lodge for another Onsen experience or visit one of the public onsens, followed by dinner. On our final evening together, we'll share a delightful "family" dinner at the lodge.

Day 8: Depart Hakuba
