Renato & Guides' team

Mountain Guide

Hi! I'm Renato, IFMGA guide from the Dolomites, and I work together with my colleagues Robert, Patrick & Walter (German speaking), Paolo, Matteo and Davide.

If I'm not available to guide you, one of them will take care of you.

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).

Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

What people are saying about Renato & Guides' team

Great trip with a really experienced guide who is passionate about what he does. The team were responsive and helpful

Our family of four ( myself, my husband and our 2 teenage daughters) did a first time via ferrata trip led by Robert. We had a great time. There was one via ferrata offered- Ferrata Fusetti al Sass de Stria. I can see why it was chosen. It was pretty close to Cortina, where we were staying. For newbies it had enough challenge and excitement. It was also fairly quiet so we didn’t have issues with people needing to pass us while climbing. The excursion took us about 3.5 hours, including a short hike to the summit after the via ferrata, and making our way back down. The views from the summit were glorious- we were surrounded by all the famous peaks. Robert did a great job leading us. He was knowledgeable and we all got up safely (no tears). He took a bunch of photos for us and sent them afterwards. Highly recommend this excursion- would do it again!

Matteo is a very nice guy, a young guide. It was unfortunate the weather did not cooperate on the first day but the second day was stunning. Given our self description of age fitness and experience, we were a bit surprised at the route chosen, which was more challenging than expected. An improvement on our next trip would be to be alerted to the need for more thorough equipment list, e.g. ideally we should have prepared climbing gloves for the via Ferrata; ideally we should have had climbing shoes of a particular specification (more toe protection, ankle coverage and support). Nevertheless we appreciated Matteo and the experience was what we had hoped for and certainly hope to return soon to experience other parts of the beautiful Dolomites.

Great experience from start to finish!!
