Description

The Grossvenediger (3674 m) is one of the highest peaks in Austria.

Located within the Hohe Tauern National Park, the Grossvenediger is also the main peak in the Venediger Group. These glacier-covered mountains situated between Salzburg and Tyrol, Austria are an alpine lover’s dream.

During this 2-day backcountry splitboarding tour, we will immerse ourselves within that dream. We will climb to the top of the Grossvenediger and witness an otherwise inaccessible snow-covered landscape. It is unlike anything you have ever seen.

This tour is reserved for seasoned backcountry splitboarders and snowboarders. You should have experience using crampons. Prior experience with high-altitude activities is also recommended.

On our first day, we will meet at the Hopffeldboden parking area in the Obersulzbachtal. From there, a shuttle will take us to base of the cable car which leads to the Kürsingerhütte (2558m). This mountain hut will be our base for our ascent on the Grossvenediger.

During our ascent to the Kürsingerhütte, we will pass over the Keesboden Glacier, as well as a hiking trail via which the hut can be accessed during the summer months. A winter hiking trail will lead us the rest of the way up to the mountain hut. The journey will take us approximately 2-3 hours, depending on snow conditions.

On our second day, we will depart from the Kürsingerhütte and make our way toward the summit of the Grossvenediger. We will approach the Obersulzbachkees before moving further into the Venediger Scharte. Finally, a flat terrain will lead us to the top of the mountain.

After a challenging 4 to 6-hour ascent, we will rest and enjoy the spectacular views from atop the Grossvenediger. Once it’s time to head back down, we will strap on our boards and re-trace our steps back down the mountain.

Experience the Hohe Tauern National Park in the best possible way: atop the Grossvenediger. Take in the incredible views before riding back down the mountain on your splitboard. Click “Request to Book” now to get in touch and reserve your spot. I look forward to exploring my backyard here in the Alps with you.

You can join this tour with either a snowboard or a splitboard.

About the guide

The mountains have always been a great part of my life. I was a youth leader of the Alpine Association of Zell am See, Bergrettungsmann, and completed the training as a ski and snowboard instructor. I studied meteorology because it can be very useful in mountaineering. My first trips took me to the Eastern Alps, around Piz Bernina and Biancogray. I also had the chance many times the amazing Mont Blanc range and the peaks around Chamonix. Finally, I got to practice in the high mountains of Bolivia and Chile.
I have really found my calling as a mountain guide. I am right where I always wanted to be. The smile on my clients' faces at the summit or after an intense ski day is so rewarding!
I am part of a team of local guides (Bergführer Zell am See Kaprun), all friends of mine, guys with whom I share the passion for the mountains. They are Markus B, Markus H and Gerald, all IFMGA certified guides. Our philosophy is "to know how to do something well is to enjoy it". Therefore, we always keep learning to give you the best experience.

Excellent experience with Andreas who is an outstanding guide. Rain and icy conditions made it quite challenging, but Andreas still made it into a very enjoyable climb for my friend and colleague Johan, who, while very fit and an avid hiker, tried mountaineering for the first time.

We didn't climb Grosser Wiesbachhorn, because Andreas suggested a more interesting climb on the Granatspitze. Granatspitze was a great climb, although we didn't really get to see much of the scenery because of rain and fog. But the guiding went perfect, Andreas is a friendly and calm guide. I would definitely reccommend him.

We had quick and clear communication with Andi even before the trip started. In consultation we forward the trip a week as the weather was nice, great suggestion of Andi. He has a lot of knowledge and experience, we felt safe the entire climb and hike. We slept at Stüdlhütte, which did not disappoint. Dinner and breakfast were extensive and so tasty. Would absolute recommend the trip and Andi as a guide to anyone!

The guide was super friendly and knows the mountain inside out. He made me feel secure at the sections that were a bit more exposed. I also appreciated that he took a couple of pictures of me as I was travelling on my own.
