Description

The Kitzsteinhorn (3203m) is a snow-filled paradise for backcountry skiers and snowboarders. Locally known as “The Glacier”, the frozen Kitzsteinhorn is situated in the Central Eastern Alps near Salzburg, Austria. It is the only glacial ski resort in the area and has long been considered one of the top freeriding resorts in the Alps.

During this day-long backcountry snowboarding tour, we will descend approximately 2000 meters on the Kitzsteinhorn through the Mühlbach Valley toward Niedernsill. In fact, we will be only be descending during this tour.

While we won’t be strapping our snowboards to our back to hike up the mountain, you should be a seasoned backcountry snowboarder. Previous experience with freeride snowboarding or splitboarding is a must to participate.

Our day will start at the Valley Station of the Kaprun Glacier Railway. After a couple of warm-up runs, we will head up to Mühlbachtal. From here, we will begin our 2000m descent. We will descend toward the Mühlbach Valley via the route with the best snow conditions.

Grab your snowboard and discover why Kitzsteinhorn is consistently rated as one of the best backcountry ski and snowboard resorts in the the Alps. Click “Request to Book” now to get in touch with me. I am here to answer any questions you may have about freeriding here in my backyard.

You can join this tour with either a snowboard or a splitboard.

If you would like to do more freeriding around Salzburg, check out my 1-day tour on nearby Saalbach-Hinterglemm.

I look forward to riding with you!

About the guide

The mountains have always been a great part of my life. I was a youth leader of the Alpine Association of Zell am See, Bergrettungsmann, and completed the training as a ski and snowboard instructor. I studied meteorology because it can be very useful in mountaineering. My first trips took me to the Eastern Alps, around Piz Bernina and Biancogray. I also had the chance many times the amazing Mont Blanc range and the peaks around Chamonix. Finally, I got to practice in the high mountains of Bolivia and Chile.
I have really found my calling as a mountain guide. I am right where I always wanted to be. The smile on my clients' faces at the summit or after an intense ski day is so rewarding!
I am part of a team of local guides (Bergführer Zell am See Kaprun), all friends of mine, guys with whom I share the passion for the mountains. They are Markus B, Markus H and Gerald, all IFMGA certified guides. Our philosophy is "to know how to do something well is to enjoy it". Therefore, we always keep learning to give you the best experience.
