Description

On this exciting one-day canyoning course in Big Cottonwood Park in Utah we aim at giving you all the necessary skills to begin your canyoning experience. Big Cottonwood is a stunning park close to Salt Lake City. In the summer it is a great place for activities such as rock climbing, mountaineering, and of course canyoning.

You do not need previous experience for this course. A good level of fitness is however necessary. During the course you will acquire skills including identifying and building anchors, belaying, rappelling and ropes. The course, which will impart technical skills and give you hands on experience, will focus on your safety. We will also work on more specific techniques to rappel into pools and optimize rope work. Finally, if we have time, we will try overhanging rappel and ascent methods including friction hitches and mechanical ascents.

It won’t all be hard work though. You will also enjoy a great sense of accomplishment and adventure. Additionally, you will get the chance to discover the beautiful Big Cottonwood canyon and its surrounding nature.

Based in the Wasatch Range near Salt Lake and Park City since 1993, Utah Mountain Adventures (UMA) is the premier full-spectrum, year-round guide service in Utah.

Programs include backcountry skiing, split-snowboarding, rock climbing, ice climbing, avalanche instruction, summer and winter mountaineering, trekking (hiking and snowshoeing) and canyoneering skills.
