When it comes to ice climbing, the Canadian Rockies offers some of the best spots in the world. And near the town of Canmore, there is an abundance of amazing places to ice climb. As a result, this trip lasts 12 days. And I can assure you that there is more than enough memorable and thrilling ice climbing to last you every minute of those days!
While the name might not be as recognisable as Banff or Lake Louise, Canmore is nonetheless a beautiful town in the province of Alberta. Furthermore, it is actually very close to Banff and Lake Louise, and as a result the area around it has the same beautiful attributes those other 2 places have. Canmore is also famous for being a big part of the 1988 Winter Olympics that took place in Calgary. The town hosted several events during those games, including cross-country skiing and the biathlon. With all that said, this place definitely has the pedigree for amazing winter fun!
The variety of ice falls that you will get to climb throughout this trip is staggering. There are so many that one of the biggest challenges will be decided where to start. They also range from 50 metres to 700 metres high! Thus making this trip accessible to people of all levels. However, it is important that you are in good enough physical condition to participate.
Finally, because this trip takes place in December, you will be able to enjoy ice climbing in the perfect conditions because during that month, the weather, while cold, is very dry.
