Looking for a classic mountaineering route in the Andes? Then follow me on this 4-day program to the top of Cerro El Plomo, an iconic peak in Chile!
At 5,424 meters above sea level, Cerro El Plomo is a mountain in the Santiago Metropolitan Region of Chile where we can take two routes with different levels of difficulty. Whether you’re a beginner in mountaineering or a more advanced participant, we’ll find a suitable itinerary for you.
To reach the summit of Cerro El Plomo, we can either take the normal route, that reaches an altitude of 5,200 meters, or the route across the Iver Glacier. This last option presents more demanding sections and requires prior experience and a very good level of fitness. If you don’t have a lot of experience in mountaineering, we’ll go for the normal route, which has a small glacier near the summit. However, for more experienced participants, we can offer you the Iver Glacier route. In any case, it’s mandatory to be physically fit.
Please, take a look below for a more detailed description of the trip’s itinerary.

Another great mountaineering opportunity is this 5-day program that I lead to San Jose Volcano, another peak in the Andes, near Santiago. Check it out!
Around 10 am, we’ll start a hike to our first camp, Piedra Numerada, situated at an altitude of 3,500 meters.
Duration: 2-3 hours.
On day 2, we’ll take a 5-hour climb at 8 am to our second camp: Federación (4,100 meters).
Day 3 will be summit day. We’ll wake up at 3 am and start at 4 am. It will take us around 10 hours to reach the summit and return to Federación.
On the last day, we’ll enjoy breakfast at 8 am and start a 5-hour walk to the car. Finally, we’ll drive to Santiago de Chile and end our trip.
I am an aspirant IFMGA mountain guide, with extensive experience in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Perú and Ecuador.
I live in Cajón del Maipo, Chile, where climbing opportunities are almost endless!
I do a lot of guiding in South America´s High Mountain, especially on technical routes. I also do rock climbing courses in different parts of Chile and in my city.
During my tours, I try to generate the best experience for my clients, and like to teach them about the cultural and environmental importance of the places we visit.
