  • Reach the summit of Cerro Toco in the Chilean Andes.
  • Take part in an accesible ascent with a mountain guide.

Description

Cerro Toco (5604m) is a volcano in the Chilean Andes. It is close to the border with Bolivia. Since it’s very accessible, it’s one of the most climbed peaks in the Andes.

A good acclimatization is necessary to avoid altitude problems.

The requirements are basic trekking experience and a good physical condition. In addition, it’s ideal to sleep at least 2 nights in San Pedro de Atacama to improve the acclimatization.

I propose to you the following program for the day. We leave at 7:30 am from San Pedro de Atacama. A 1.30-hour drive takes us 4500 meters high, where we have breakfast. Then we drive to 5000 meters high. From here, the trek to the summit takes between 2 and 4 hours. We will be back in San Pedro de Atacama around 3 pm.

Does this trip sound interesting? Then please contact me and we will define all the details for this amazing ascent!

We also lead an ascent to the fantastic Lascar Volcano. Check it out!

About lead guide, Christian Fernandez:

I’m originally from Argentina, but live in Chile since 1998. Now I’m settled in the north of Chile, in San Pedro de Atacama, beautiful town in the heart of the Andean section of the dry Atacama dessert.

From there I organize many expeditions to beautiful peaks on a weekly basis. I’ve done more than 300 high altitude ascents, and more than 25 peaks over 6000 metres.

I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese.

This is an easy assent! I ended up paying $200 for a two hour experience and an apple and piece of chocolate ( lunch 😳) If you plan on doing this hike which I highly recommend, don’t book it with these guys - total rip off!! You can go with a group for about $70 if you book locally from San Pedro! It’s a beautiful view from the summit! It’s not even hard to get there ( they drive you most of the way!) My guide was lovely, great chat, nice person but trust me $200 is a massive massive massive rip off for this ‘experience’
