Explore one of Chile’s impressive peaks on this exciting one-day mountaineering adventure. Follow me to the top of the Calbuco Volcano, just 40 kilometers outside Puerto Varas, for some spectacular views and an unforgettable ascent.
First, let me share some interesting facts about this volcano:
It is in the Los Lagos Region in southern Chile.
In the Mapuche language, Calbuco means Blue Water.
Its particular shape is due to the volcanic eruption of 1893.
Now, onto our Calbuco ascent:
Our adventure begins at 5.00am with a drive from Puerto Varas to Valle Los Ulmos in the Ensenada Village. Once there, we’ll hike through the Valdivian rainforest up to a waterfall. On the way, we’ll see some marks of the volcano’s last eruption (1961 and 2015). The next part of the ascent is usually the most challenging and will take us through volcanic rocks and loose terrain. However, we will be rewarded by stunning views of the Llanquihue Lake and the Chilean and Argentine Andes. After 2 hours of this terrain, we’ll follow an easier route to the craters (main, old and new). The last ascent to the north and south peaks varies between seasons. Finally, we’ll go down following the same route.
On the way to the top of this stunning peak, we will witness a change in vegetations and dazzling views of Lake Llanquihue, the volcanoes Osorno, Puntiagudo and Tronador, and Puerto Montt. It will definitely be worth it!
So, are you ready for a unique adventure in the Andes? Then send your request and discover the magic of the Chilean Patagonia! I would love to be your guide.
If you are looking for more adventures in Chile, follow me to the top of the Osorno Volcano or the Puntiagudo Volcano.
