Description

Situated in the middle of the iconic Eiger-Jungfrau-Monch massif in the Bernese Alps is Monch.

Rising to 4.107 meters above sea level, the peak offers an excellent mountaineering challenge for novice climbers as well as a great warm up for more advanced climbers heading to the other two peaks on the massif.

Our ascent to Monch’s lofty summit, from which we will enjoy stunning views of the Great Aletsch Glacier as well as into the scenic Lauterbrunnen Valley, begins at the Grindelwald Grund Bahnhof.

After meeting here at 7 am, we will take the train to Jungfraujoch where we will disembark and walk to the start of the southwest ridge. The ascent begins easily enough and involves scrambling over some looser rocks before climbing up more solid rock faces.

About half-way up, we will reach the first snow ridge. From here, we will climb alternately over rock and snow until we reach the summit ridge, upon which we will walk to the top.

The whole climb takes about three to four hours and the benefit of our early start is that the way should not be too crowded. This makes the fresh mountain air and incredibly beautiful panoramic view all the more satisfying.

After taking in the view, we will descend the way we came and return to Grindelwald.

So what are you waiting for? Book now for this incredible 1-day mountaineering experience to the middle summit of the Eiger-Jungfrau-Monch massif!

If you like the look of this trip then we think you will also enjoy our mountaineering ascents of the Jungfrau and Eiger!
