Description

Explore the Rhine River in the best possible way, follow us for an incredible day cycling along this Dutch beauty. We will leave from Amersfoort and then discover the farmlands, rivers, windmills, castles, trenches and so many other wonders along the 65 kilometers of our tour.

For this incredible trip, we’ll first cycle on farmlands to reach the historic town of Wijk bij Duurstede passing by Den Treek and Sandenburg. This beautiful town is known for being the protagonist of famous paintings, such as the one by Jacob van Ruisdael, which shows the stunning Duurstede Castle, Saint John’s Church and Ruisdaels windmill. We’ll make sure to stop by for a photo opportunity.

Then, we’ll cycle towards Amerongen, a charming village with its own castle (Kasteel Amerongen), windmill and church. We’ll then cross Amerongse Berg to cycle along Valleikanaal back to Amerfoort. On this last stretch, we’ll see the historic Dutch defence system against floods and the Germans. There are still trenches and bunkers to explore.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice.
