Description

Hayedo de Montejo is a place you must visit at least once in your life. Follow me to explore this wonderful site in the best possible season, autumn. This incredible one-day hike will show us colorful trees and breathtaking views!

Hayedo de Montejo, a Natural Site of National Interest since 1974, is formed by two hills: Chaparral and Solana. It is a beautiful site full of different species of trees, perfect for sightseeing in the fall.

On this hiking day, we’ll meet at Nuevos Ministerios and ride to El Cardoso de la Sierra. We’ll follow the GR-88 along the Jarama River and reach a high point of 1,771 meters to admire the Hayedo from above. The circular route will take us back where we started.

The hiking path we’ll take covers 9 kilometers with 250 meters of elevation difference. It is a pretty easy and fun route, open to everyone. Along the way, I’ll teach you what life used to be like in Sierra del Rincón (formerly known as “Sierra Pobre”) that covers the three most important hayedos: Hayedo de Montejo, Hayedo de la Quesera and Hayedo de Tejera Negra.

At the end of the trip, we can stop at Montejo de la Sierra, explore its town center and visit the interpretation site of the Hayedo to learn more about its history. You can also combine this day with a hiking trip to Hayedo de Tejera Negra and make it a full hiking weekend.

What are you waiting for? Send your message and let me guide you through this breathtaking spot.

If you are looking for more hiking trips in Spain, you can also follow me for a 6-day adventure in the Sierra de Guadarrama or a half-day trip in Valle de la Barranca.

What people are saying about Pedro

Raquel

Pedro was so knowledgeable about the area, and graciously answered all our questions, even those unrelated to the hike. He was very kind in picking us up from Madrid for a small fee. He also took a bunch of photos of my husband and I during the trek, which I really appreciated since those are our only pictures together from our trip to Spain. I'd definitely recommend Pedro to anyone traveling to Madrid and interested in experiencing nature outside the city.
