Hiking along La Caravelle peninsula from Tartane, Martinique (Half-day)

Jutting off of the eastern shoreline of Martinique, La Caravelle peninsula offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the island’s most beautiful spots!

Starting from the lovely little town of Tartane, which sits right in the middle of the peninsula, we will head out on our half-day hike, making a circuit around part of the peninsula.

As we go, we will get the opportunity to see the dry characteristics of part of this natural reserve’s forest, the peninsula’s rugged shoreline, beautiful water in the bay and the magnificent mangrove forests.

We may even get the chance to see some of the island’s native fauna, including mongooses, anole lizards and fer-de-lance snakes.

Our knowledgable local guide will be able to explain how the mongoose, which is an invasive species, came to the island as well as answer any other questions you may have about the island’s history and ecology.

All of the paths upon which we will be hiking are pretty well maintained and only a moderate level of fitness is required to really enjoy this activity. Remember to bring a sun hat and sunscreen as we will spend a lot of time exposed to the sun.
