Description

If you already have ice climbing experience, join me on this 1-day trip to the impressive Cascate di Patri icefalls, in the Cogne Valley, northern Italy.

The Cascate di Patri (300 m) is ideal for people who already have a good ice climbing level. Also, it's perfect if you are looking for a challenge of greater difficulty. It's a TD + (III / 4) level route.

From the village of Valnontey, and beyond the Valmiana, we reach the Efaulet bridge, at the foot of the Gran Paradiso massif. Then, on the left, we find the Patri Icefall. It's a really majestic setting. The approaching time is about one hour.

The Cogne Valley is considered by many as the top ice climbing venue in Italy. It's part of the Aosta Valley and it's located in the Gran Paradiso National Park. It offers an inmense variety of ice and mixed routes of different length, for all levels .

This trip is suitable for climbers with easy classical mountaineering experiences, that include the use of crampons. Also, you should have experiences on easier icefalls, like the Cascate di Lillaz. You can also take a look at the trip I offer there.

Please note you need to be in good shape in order to join this ice climbing day.

Mountain Guide

Born in Aosta in 1970, I am an aspirant mountain guide and a passionate climber. For me, the lightning strike came in while climbing Punta Tzan with some friends: from that day on, my whole life has been the mountains and practicing mountain sports and activities.
Among my most significant ascents are: Mattehorn, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Aiguille Verte, Monviso and Mont Maudit, among others. I will be happy to guide you around my home region!

Everything was perfect. We had to bring forward the trip due to weather conditions and Remy was very flexible. He made us feel comfortable along the climb and everything went very easily although it was only our second 4000 ascension. He's a very nice and pleasant person. I highly recommend him!

Remy was a superb guide, would really recommend him! Warm and friendly personality. Very professional and knowledgeable, made us (beginners) feel comfortable during the trip. We had a lot of questions beforehand, all communication was clear, fast responses and Remy was always available by mail or phone. Also fast response by Explore-Share. The Gran Paradiso was amazing, especially the views, climb tough but very doable. Next time I would go skiing down instead of hiking.
