If you want to improve your skills and conquer the most incredible ice walls of the world, you should first participate in this 4-day introductory ice climbing course in Nevados de Sollipulli. Your instructor will be Eduardo, a local IFMGA certified mountain guide.

Description

In the winter, the ice-filled craters of the magnificent Nevados de Sollipulli become one big, icy adventure. Discover ice climbing for the first time during this 4-day introductory course. I have designed this course specifically for those who are new to this fascinating, wintertime activity.

During this course, you will acquire the skills you'll need to get started and continue ice climbing independently.

What can you expect to learn in this course? We will cover the following topics during our days together in Nevados de Sollipulli.

How to use ice axes and crampons on frozen waterfalls
Non-verbal communication during ascents, descents and crossings
Correct use of ice climbing tools
Anchor types and usage, screw placement
Equipment and technical material
Environment awareness
Techniques for descending and rappelling
Safety

The ice-filled Nevados de Sollipulli, located in the Araucanía Region of Chile, is the ideal location for this entry-level course.

While no previous ice climbing experience is necessary, you do first need to pass this Mountaineering Course or prove equivalent knowledge. You will also need to have a good level of physical fitness in order to participate.

If you plan to join me, I recommend packing the following gear:

Waterproof shoes and socks
Proper outdoor clothing, including a waterproof jacket and pants
Helmet, harness and safety carabiner
Crampons and piolets

I will send you with a detailed packing list once you confirm your spot. If you do not have the proper ice climbing gear, not to worry. You will be able to rent anything you need locally.
