Monte Perdido (3,355 m) is the third highest peak in the Pyrenees. Also, it is one of the most iconic mountains in Spain. The Monte Perdido Massif has an exclusive membership at the club of the 3,000+ meters mountains, which makes it one of the most popular ascents on Earth!
Follow me on this incredible adventure to the summit of this majestic peak, located in the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. And discover one of the last remaining glaciers in the Pyrenees, that lies in the North Face.
For this 1-day express ascent, we’ll take advantage of the bus services departing from Nerín. This is the ideal way for those with not a lot of time, that still want to live this fantastic mountaineering experience.
We’ll depart early morning, heading towards Cuello Gordo (2,200 m). From this point we will begin climbing to the Góriz mountain refuge, from where we’ll get breathtaking views of the dazzling Cola de Caballo cascade. Then, from the refuge, we’ll keep ascending until we reach the Lago Helado (3,000 m), a mesmerizing frozen lake. Thereupon, we’ll cross the Escupidera, which will lead us to the summit of Monte Perdido. Once standing at the top, we will get the most hypnotizing views of the Ordesa Valley, and the Pyrenees.
On our way down, we’ll stop at the Góriz refuge, to later continue until the starting point of our ascent. From there, another bus will take us back to Nerín.
