For 3 days, I would like to not only guide you to the summit of Mount Shuksan, but I would also like to instruct you on the crucial techniques to make the climb.
Including a scenic drive from Seattle, and a wonderful hike through the forest to our base camp, this trip has everything a nature lover could want. And when it comes to the day dedicated to climbing practice, I have no doubt you will learn a great deal of valuable skills that you either did not already have, or wished to improve. Examples of what we will cover during this trip include the following items.
Selection of personal gear and packing for a glacier climb
Self arrest techniques
Walking on snow with and without crampons
Climbing knots
Glacier travel skills
Navigation and route finding
Hazard assessment
During the climb to the summit of Mount Shuksan, we will take the Sulphide Glacier route. Throughout this route there is an assortment of giant crevasses, steep rock scrambling and moderate snow and ice slopes. Hence the necessity for the skills learned the days prior. However, once you reach the summit of the peak, the hard work will prove worth it, as the views are tremendous.
Ideal for people looking to begin achieving their mountaineering dreams, this trip will properly prepare for ascents to come. Furthermore, the ascent itself is incredible. If you would like to join me, just send me a request.
I can also take you to the summit of Mount Baker on this 3 day trip.

After that, we will hike for approximately 5-6 hours to our base camp. At the base camp will start practicing necessary skills for the climb to come, including snow walking and basic ice axe skills before having a delicious dinner and sleeping for the night.
After a delicious, warm breakfast, we will review several important skills for the following day’s climb. Those skills will include basics of glacier travel, how to set up rope teams, anchors and much more. We will then have an early dinner and go to bed early.
We will wake up very early, at approximately 2:00 am. We will then start climbing at approximately 3:00 am and should reach the summit between 7:00 am and 9:00 am. After you’ve enjoyed the views, we will return to the base camp for lunch, clean-up then return to the cars and drive back to Seattle.
