Join us for this informative 2-day crevasse rescue course on Mount Baker in Washington state and learn the skills you need to mountaineer safely alone and with others!
Over the course of the two days, which combine classroom-like explanations with real world experience, we will go over rope management and team travel techniques; self arrest; knots and hitches; setting up snow anchors; and self-rescue systems.
All of this learning and practice will culminate in us performing a partner rescue using a 3:1 system in a real crevasse.
The course begins after we meet up at a predetermined location and head to the Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead. From here, we will hike up to our camp and set all our equipment up.
Once we are all set up, we will head out to the glacier to practice rigging rope-team travel, arresting falls on a rope-team and setting up snow anchors. After dinner, we will review these techniques and prepare for our big test the next day.
After getting an early start, we will hike up Mount Baker to a suitable crevasse and begin practicing what we learned the previous day. I will also demonstrate how to arrest the fall of a climbing partner and you will all have the opportunity to practice this under my supervision.
At the end of the day, we will return to our camp, pack up and hike back down to the trailhead.
So what are you waiting for? Book now and learn all the necessary skills needed to perform self-rescue and team crevasse rescues during this 2-day course on the slopes of Mount Baker.
