Mountain biking to the crater lakes on Nevado de Toluca in Mexico

Mexico's fourth tallest mountain sits roughly 80 kilometers west of the capital city, in the heart of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.

Nevado de Toluca also boasts a 1.5 kilometer wide summit caldera as well as two lakes, which sit at the floor of the mountain basin. These unique geological features make Nevado de Toluca the ideal family mountain biking destination.

Starting from one side of the volcanic peak, we will cycle up toward the crater, enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding countryside as we go.

Upon arriving in the crater basin, we will proceed to cycle around the Sun and Moon Lakes, taking our time to explore this interesting and unique volcanic landscape.

After enjoying this interesting caldera, we will race back down the side of the mountain, enjoying the refreshing feeling of the wind on our face, before stopping at a local restaurant and enjoying a well-deserved lunch made up of local cuisine.
