Soaring above beautiful beaches, bays and forests on the northern shores of the Dominican Republic, the Pico Isabel de Torres is the highest peak in the province of Puerto Plata.
Hike your way up the mountainside to reach one of the Caribbean’s finest peaks. Once you reach the top you’ll be greeted by the giant statue of Christ, one of the region’s landmarks.
You’ll be standing 793 meters above sea level, where beautiful panoramic views open up to you. See the verdant hills rolling in the background, the Atlantic Ocean stretching far beyond the eye can you, beautiful beaches flanking the coast.
But that’s not all that you’ll discover. Once on the peak, continue hiking within the botanical gardens that are packed with local flora, within the caves that carve through the mountain.
There are different options to reach the summit that come with varying difficulties. Some choice to drive to the top while others prefer to take the cable car, the only one in the whole of the Caribbean. Yet the best way to explore the region is to hike the 2-and-a-half-mile trail that leads to the summit.
This trail begins on a dirt path that forms into a single track for much of the route.
