Description

Join me on this 5-day adventure and discover why rock climbing in Paklenica is the ultimate paradise for multipitch climbers round the globe.

Off the coast of Croatia, in the Velebit Mountains, lies Paklenica National Park. The park has around 150 km of hiking trails, offering many attractive opportunities for outdoor lovers.

But the real highlight of this place is a big limestone gorge also called Paklenica. If you are a climber this name will probably sound popular to you, as this is considered as one of the best climbing spots in Croatia.

I’ve been climbing all around the world and I have to say that Paklenica is one of the best climbing areas I came across so far.

It has a fantastic combination of mild Adriatic climate, an scenic seacoast and above all, amazing quality rock climbing! Furthermore, you can also find a delicious local cuisine, wine and friendly people.

During this course, we’ll focus on long rock routes of all grades. We’ll go from scrambling up some scenic rock ridges to climb harder, more ambitious routes in a vertical wall.

You’ll learn all the necessary topics for safe multipitch rock climbing, including ropework, rappelling and belays.

We’ll visit several spots, but the jewel will be the north face of Anica kuk, an impressive 350 meters high wall. We may also decide to climb lower but still beautiful routes in nearby walls instead.

Besides, we’ll visit Dabarski kukovi, or even go further down the coast towards Split. All the time, we’ll be searching for the best quality climbing.

Please contact me if you want to practice rock climbing in Paklenica. I definitely think it will be an outstanding experience!

Mountain Guide

I was born in 1970 in Slovenia and I'm an IFMGA mountain guide since 2003. I started climbing when I was 15 years old at a local climbing club. Since then I became an ambitious and skilled alpinist, having accomplished numerous first ascents in Tien Shan, Himalaya, and Patagonia, and climbed extensively (over 900 alpine routes) in the Himalayas, the Alps, and in both Americas, at the same time working as a full time teacher in Slovenia!

In 2003 I became a full time mountain guide, and since then I've been guiding clients to the hidden gems of Slovenia and other Alpine summits all over Europe. In 2009, I also became the first Slovenian to guide clients up Mt Everest.

I would like to guide and show you the beauties of the hidden areas of Slovenian mountains, let it be in the Julian Alps or Kamnik Alps, away from the crowds. The mountains here are quite steep and dramatic, with sharp ridges, big faces and nice paths in between with some grassy meadows.

Here, it is an ideal field for hut to hut ski touring or free ride day tours or alpinism. It's also an ideal training ground for alpinism courses.

What people are saying about Tomaz

It was great to have Tomaz show us the mountains surrounding Ljubljana, he is a great guide. As clients we should have indicated better what we wanted out of the trip in order to make the most of it. Building the level of intensity during the week is important and something you should not underestimate. The winter course was a little difficult to make happen as the conditions were not ideal. All in all a fantastic trip during which we learned lots from Tomaz
