Would you like to discover one of the best mountain ascents in the Central Andes? Then join this amazing 4-day San Jose volcano ascent in Chile!

The San Jose volcano is located at an altitude of 5856 m. (19212 ft.) in the Central Andes in Chile. It is known as the silent giant and is the highest southernmost volcano in the stunning Andes range. Boasting stunning views of other amazing mountains in the region such as Aconcagua, Marmolejo, Cerro Plomo, Paloma and others, climbing this stunning peak is a rewarding challenge that also serves as a great acclimatization trek for those that also wish to climb Aconcagua.

On this 4-day adventure, we will get to climb to the top of this amazing mountain.  We will set off first to Plantat hut, and then progressively climb the San Jose volcano until we reach the summit on the third day of our trek. Finally, we will return our starting point.

Itinerary

Day 1: Plantat Hut 3200 m.s.n.m.

We will meet at the hotel at 9 am. and begin our trekking to Plantat Hut at 3200 m.s.n.m. Then we will arrange all the equipment for the following day.

Day 2: Camp 4100 mts.

We will trek to our campsite at 4100 mts.

Day 3: Summit day

We will trek to the summit at an altitude of 5856 mts. and then return to our campsite.

Day 4: Return

Return to Plantat hut and then to the hotel.

 

Equipment you will need to bring

Participants should bring: mountaineering shoes, pants and jacket, mountain gloves, sleeping bag, pad, and sunglasses.

I like to guide in the mountains, mountain skiing in the southern volcanoes and central zone, rock and ice climbing. I have been in the Cordillera Blanca, Cordillera Real, and Chilean Andes. I have experience in rescues and WFR first aid.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice.
