Getting started on trad climbing opens a whole new world of possibilities. You probably have many climbs on your bucket-list: Torres del Paine, San Gabriel, Las Peinetas (here in Chile), Yosemite (in the USA). This course in the beautiful Chilean town of Pucon will sharpen your skills and make you feel confident to approach bigger climbs!
The main objective of this course is to teach you trad climbing techniques, as well as how to use the equipment properly to climb multi-pitch routes. These are some of the main points we’ll cover throughout this 3 days:
Different types of rock and how to adapt the technique according to them.
Rock climbing equipment.
Fall factor.
Learn how to place protection properly.
Techniques for crack climbing (Dulfer and jamming).
Double rope climbing.
Progression in multi-pitch climbing routes.
Rappel. Use of safety back-up systems.
Communication: climbing calls.
Techniques for climbing chimneys.
Topos: how to read, understand and make them.
This course is only for climbers who have done a first level of a rock climbing course or prove to have knowledge up or beyond that level. You must be able to climb a 5.9 route top rope and have a good physical condition.
