Do you want to discover the most popular freeride descent of the Dolomites? Then join me for this day-trip and let’s ski the amazing Val Mesdi route!
This popular 6km descent runs through a steep ravine enclosed by high rocky walls. It crosses the Sella Group from the northern slopes of Piz Boè (3152 m) to the town of Colfosco, on the Val Badia valley.
Our day trip starts taking the Sass Pordoi cable car, which offers breathtaking views of the unique alpine landscape. Then, after a short descent and a 45-minutes hike (we might need skins), we will reach the Rifugio Boè, where Val Mesdi (or Val Mezdì), the most popular freeride descent in the Dolomite Mountains, awaits us.
At the end of this incredible run we will reach the Alta Badia ski resort, in Colfosco. And after skiing part of the Sella Ronda, another famous circuit of the Sella Group, we will be back at our starting point.
So, if you are ready to try the most awesome freeride run of the Dolomites, then please contact me. I’ll be glad to enjoy this unique winter adventure with you!
I also offer a Freeride day outing in Marmolada and a 3-day ski touring expedition in Val di Fassa. Check them out!
Meeting point
What is the best way to reach the meeting point and move around in the Dolomites?
We strongly recommend renting a car to explore the Dolomites. Public transport is not as frequent as in a city. Being independent is key because meeting points are often early in the morning and can be hard to reach.

Mountain Guide
Hi! I'm Renato, IFMGA guide from the Dolomites, and I work together with my colleagues Robert, Patrick & Walter (German speaking), Paolo, Matteo, Davide, Giorgia and Luca.
If I'm not available to guide you, one of them will take care of you.
I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.
Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.
My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).
Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

We had Robert! He was really enjoyable to be around. If we needed help, he was there to point out good steps as we made the climb. He also gave us some recommendations of things to while we were in the Dolomites!
