Come with us on this 8-day exploration of the Douro Valley in Portugal. One of our knowledgeable guides will show you to the best walking spots. Then, you’ll learn all about the history of the region and be able to take in the beautiful scenery. Plus, you’ll get to taste lots of amazing ports and wines.

The Douro Valley is one of the oldest wine-making regions in the world. With its rolling hills, winding roads and beautiful river, the dramatic landscape of the Douro Valley is perfect for a trip away.

On this trip, we’ll start by discovering Porto, a beautiful coastal city. After spending time in Porto, we’ll head to Régua. The journey from Porto to Régua is outstanding. We’ll follow the Douro River from the estuary to the Spanish border, taking in beautiful scenery and vineyards along the way.

In Régua, we’ll be able to try great wines and ports, and we’ll explore this historic town on foot. We’ll also learn more about how wine is made in the region.

Our trip will end with a spectacular journey back to Porto down the river by boat– an experience to remember!

  • Day 1Arrival in Porto

    On the first day, you’ll travel from Porto airport, either by bus or taxi. If there is time, we’ll do an orientation walk once you’re settled in.

  • Day 2Exploring Porto
    On day 2, we’ll explore the best of Porto, otherwise known as the  ‘capital of the north.’
    We’ll visit the most iconic sites in Porto such as the Cathedral, the Stock Exchange, S. Bento Station, the Praça da Ribeira and the Port Lodges.
    We’ll also get to take in some amazing views from the top of D. Luis I Bridge and the Serra do Pilar viewpoint.
  • Day 3Travel from Porto to Régua

    We’ll follow the Douro River on a magical train journey to Régua, passing through beautiful wine country.

    When we arrive, we’ll set ourselves up for the following days.

    Then, we’ll try some of the wine and port that this place is famous for.

  • Day 4Fontelo Walk

    Day 4 will be for exploring the Fontelo region on foot, passing by patchwork fields and farmland.

    We’ll also stop and try wine and port along the way and learn all about the wine making process.

  • Day 5Free Day

    This is your day to spend as you wish. However, we can arrange an excursion for you at the Mateus Palace with lunch in (this excursion is not included in the price.

    The Mateus Palace has the main house, gardens, a winery and a chapel. It’s also a great example of Baroque architecture.

  • Day 6Lamego Day

    On day six, we’ll visit the ancient town of Lamego. The history of this town dates back to before Roman times.

    We’ll visit the almost 900-year old cathedral.
    The cathedral has a stunning 686 step staircase leading up to it, and is a must-see in Lamego.
    We’ll spend a day exploring this history-rich town.
  • Day 7Régua to Porto

    To get back to Porto on our second to last day, we’re going to take a boat. This magical tour, takes us along the River Douro, and we’ll be able to see the stunning scenery from a different vantage point.

  • Day 8Departure

    On your last day, we’ll help you get back to Porto Airport.
