I invite you to join me in this 2-day ascent to the **Grossvenediger (3660 m) by the West Ridge**! This impressive glaciated mountain is the main summit of the **Venediger Group.** Grossvenediger is the perfect objective for ski mountaineers and Backcountry enthusiasts.&#x20;

It lies in the Hohe Tauern range, on the border **between East Tyrol and Salzburg in Austria**. Also, it’s the fifth-highest mountain in the country. Besides, the Grossvenediger is **one of the most incredible summits in the Alps**!

Today I propose to you a great 2-day ascent program. We will meet at **Neukirchen am Grossvenediger**, from where we will head to the Kürsinger Hütte (2548 m). Then, on the second day, we will begin our ascent to the summit.

Please note that **you need to be in very good physical condition**! The difficulty level of this climb is UIAA 2. Also, you should have a good head for heights.

We will pass through rugged glaciers to the West Ridge and then reach the amazing crest. We will be able to enjoy a spectacular view! You can check the complete itinerary below this text.

We will meet at Neukirchen am Grossvenediger and we will take the  Tälertaxi to the funicular station (1920 m). Then, we will head to the Kürsinger Hütte (2548 m). The material can be sent to the hut by cable car. We will decide whether we will make the climb to the hut by the normal path, the Klamml, or whether we will climb over the new via ferrata route. It will be a 600 metres ascent (2 hours).

Today we will begin our ascent to the Grossvenediger summit. At the beginning the access is the same as for the normal route. But then our way separates from the other climbers. On this lonely path, we will pass through the rugged glacier to the entrance of the West Ridge. Climbing along this ridge, we will now reach the beautiful summit, the highest in Salzburg. We will descend over the normal path back to the Kürsinger Hütte. After a short stop at the hut, we will take the taxi back again. It will take us in total about 10 hours. We will climb up 1200 metres. The descent will be 1800 metres, to the starting point.

Join me on an adventure-filled 7 days as we climb the three highest summits in Austria. This is a unique mountaineering experience where we’ll get to cover a lot of ground and see many of Austria’s best alpine areas like Tirol, Salzburg and Carinthia.

Our first challenge of the trip will be to climb to the summit of Wildspitze. Before that, however, we’ll spend a day getting used to the altitude. I’ll also take the opportunity to instruct you on mountaineering procedure and safety. On this trip, we’ll be traversing a glacier at one point, so it’s important that you have all the necessary information and equipment before attempting this.

Once we’re all sorted, we’ll spend the next few days climbing mountains, breathing in the crisp alpine air and enjoying the views.

After we’ve climbed Wildspitze, we’ll tackle the summit of Großvenediger (not on the same day, don’t worry!). We’ll finish the trip with a climb to the summit of the largest mountain in Austria, Großglockner at 3798 metres. This is a once in a lifetime experience and you’ll never forget the beautiful alpine views you get both on the way and on from the top.

I’ll pick you up from either Munich or Salzburg Airport. If you have your own car we can meet directly in Vent. From Vent, we’ll head to the Breslauer Hut which will be our home for the next two days.

Arrival Day

We’ll start with an easy day on day two. We’ll give you all the information you need regarding glacier travel, walking with crampons, and more. This day will also help you acclimatise to the altitude.  We’ll have dinner together in the Breslauer Hut.

Acclimatisation day

On day three we’ll head to the summit of the Wildspitze which sits at 3666 metres. We’ll return to the hut at the end of the day to relax and sleep.

In the morning we’ll jump in the car and drive to the Base of Großvenediger. We’ll spend the day traveling and then getting to the hut where we’ll sleep for the night.

This is the day that we reach the summit of Großvenediger! We’ll start early so that we can reach it before lunch. From the summit we’ll be able to take in views of nearby Großglockner (our final challenge for the trip). When we arrive back down to camp we’ll pack up and head to Kals am Großglockner and the famous Stüdlhut, where we’ll stay overnight.

Day six is a big day because we’ll be tackling Austria’s highest peak, Großglockner which sits at 3798 metres. After we reach the summit we’ll have some time to take in the views before we descend back to the Stüdlhut.

**If you are looking for new climbing challenges, join me on this fantastic expedition to the Grossvenediger! During this 2-day trip, we will reach its very high top while passing through the most amazing Austrian landscapes.**

**The Grand Venus**, or Grossvenediger, with **its 3674 meters** is the most wonderful mountain in the Alpine part of Austria.

Although there are other higher mountains, this offers **the best views** of the surrounding landscapes.

The Grossvenediger is the main peak of the Venediger Group, a mountain range with the Alps.

So, according to the experts, it is Austria’s fourth highest peak.

Once we reach the summit, you will find yourself surrounded by spectacular glaciers. **This setting is all part of the beautiful Highe Tauern National Park.**

Our climbing trip will be divided in **two days**. On the first day, we will meet and commence our ascent through the mountains and reach the Kürsinger Hütte.

Then, on the second day, we will finally reach the Grossvenediger’s top! From there, you will enjoy the most amazing view of the Austrian Alps and beyond.

**Each group of climbers will have 6 members maximum.** In order for your trip to be totally safe and your guidance personalized, this number results perfect.

All mountain lovers are welcome. However, you must have previous experience dealing with crampons, even if it is little. Also, feel comfortable with exposed walking.

The necessary equipment, crampons and climbing harness, is free of charge. We will provide you with it.

This trip requires you to be in good physical conditions to be able to ascent about 400 meters an hour.

And, last but not least, you must tolerate well medium height positions.

We will meet at the Parking Hopffeldboden in Obersulzbachtal. Then, a shuttle will take us to the Kürsingerhütte cable car. We will start our ascent to Kürsinger Hütte following either the path for hiking or the ensured climb for approximately 2 hours.

We will climb upwards from Kürsinger Hütte passing from Obersulzbach up to the Venediger Scharte. We will traverse the ridge in flattering terrain until we reach the Grossvenediger’s summit after 4-6 hours. Then, we will descend following the route back to Kürsinger Hütte and finally to the cable car.

#### **Let me guide you through this great 4-day adventure, climbing up to the summit of the 4th highest peak in Austria: the Grossvenediger!**

This amazing mountain, known as **Grossvenediger** or Großvenediger, lies just in the heart of **the Hohe Tauern, the largest mountain range in the central-eastern Alps.** It is a 3662-meter peak on the border of East Tyrol and Salzburg, in Austria. During this climbing trip I will guide you up to the top of this mountain, which is covered by glaciers and offers **beautiful views of the Hohe Tauern National Park.**

This area is easily accessible from Switzerland via Innsbruck. This tour will not only allow you to reach the summit of Grossvenediger. You can also **walk on glacial terrain** and wide slopes. Furthermore, in some of our stops we can enjoy some glacier fishing as well.

In order to take the best from this trip and enjoy it to the fullest you will need **a good physical fitness**. Keep in mind we must walk uphill between 2 and 8 hours per day.

The next confirmed departure will take place from **September 10th to Wednesday 13th**. I have a few spots available. Don’t forget to bring proper clothes for high mountain expeditions and your glacier equipment. If you don’t have it, please let me know so I can advise you about that.

Grossvenediger 4-day climbing tour

**Join for a challenging week between glaciers and impressive peaks. The highlight of this adventure will be reaching the summit of Grossglockner (3798 m).**

**Grossglockner (3798 m)** is a pyramid-shape peak of the **Hohe Tauern** range in the **Central Eastern Alps.** It’s the highest peak in **Austria** and also very popular among climbers.

Our itinerary will begin in **Hinterbichl**, a tiny village at the foot of **Grossvenediger (3657 m)**. In fact, our first objective will be climbing this peak, the fourth highest in the country.

For this ascent, we’ll use crampons as it will involve crossing a glacier. From the summit, you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of Grossglockner to the east side.

Finally, we’ll reach the highest point in Austria on day 6. On our way there, we’ll cross **Koednitzkees Glacier.**

Early in the afternoon, we’ll meet for the climb in Hinterbichl, which is a little village at the foot of Grossvenediger.

After breakfast, you can “cheat” the first half of the long hike up by taking the “Venediger Taxi” – a van service most climbers resort to – up to Johannishütte at 2121 meters. On this day there’ll be no glacier walking. From Johannishütte it’s a pretty walk up on the alpine hillside. The hike is moderately difficult; you should make it to Defreggerhaus in 2.5-3 hours. We’ll do an ice basics course and test our equipment on the glacier.

We will get up at dawn and ascent 700 vertical meters to reach Austria’s 4th highest peak.

We’ll start the ascent with headlamps on in the dark on a rocky trail. After about 30 minutes, we’ll enter the glacier. I will rope you up and you will put your crampons on. However, you may start to feel fatigue, because you’re above 3000 meters. Don’t be afraid if you experience a small headache – it’s normal, but it’s important that you tell me about it.

After a 2.5-3 hour climb, we’ll be on a narrow ridge leading to the summit. This is the region’s second tallest mountain, topped only by Grossglockner. In fact, we’ll have an awesome view of Grossglockner to the east and it is our next target after this peak. After summiting, we’ll descend to Defreggerhaus for a rest.

It’s quite likely that we’ll be in time to walk back to Johannishütte (1-1.5 hour walk down) which is more comfy than Defregger with better food and the chance of a hot shower.

We should get up at around 8-8:30 and take the taxi down to the valley to say goodbye to these magnificent mountains. We’ll sleep in or around Kals.

We should get up at 8:00 and take a drive up to the parking space of Lücknerhaus.

We’ll start walking at 2,200 meters and will need to tackle a vertical of 600 meters to get to one of the most modern huts in the Alps. This will take about 1.5-2.5 hours. An indoor climbing wall and great cuisine await us at the hut.

We’ll need to go to bed early, as we’ll leave quite early in the morning.

I cannot guarantee that you’ll have accommodation in Stüdlhütte. You need to book very early (at least 2 months in advance) to make sure you do. Still, if there are no free beds at Stüdlhütte, we can sleep at another hut closeby, Adlersruhe.

After an overnight stay and breakfast we’ll start at around 5:00 from Stüdlhütte across the Koednitzkees glacier to Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte (3.454 m, 2.5 hours).

We’ll climb up to the summit of Grossglockner at 12:00 to 13:00 ( 1,5 hours).

Enjoying the panoramic view from the top,  we’ll descend the same route back.

At about 18:00 we will be back at the Stüdlhütte. We’ll celebrate at the hut in the evening!

Early in the morning we will start our tour towards the Grossvenediger summit. Still in the dark, we will go to the glacier entrance with the light of our headlights. Later, the daylight will greet us. We will enjoy the ascent on the “flat” glacier and let our thoughts wander. Once we reach the Summit, we will have time to take some pictures and enjoy a spectacular panorama. Then, we will start our descent. Back on the Kürsinger Hütte we will then continue the descent to the Seilbahnhütte, where the Täler taxi will bring us back to the starting point.

Very early in the morning, we will begin our ascent to the summit! We will follow the normal route up to the 3000 meter limit. Then, we will cross to the right, to the entrance of the northern ridge. It’s initially exposed, but nevertheless, as a block ridge it’s relatively easy to climb. It will be a level IV difficulty climb. After the summit ascent, we will descend again along the normal path. Back at the hut, we will take a short rest and then continue the descent to the cable car. From here the taxi takes us back to the starting point. The total climb up and down will take us 10 hours. (1200 metres up-1800 metres down).
