#### Well known for its astounding natural beauty Bariloche in Argentina is the kind of place you can’t help but marvel at.

During this **6 day adventure**, I would like to do much more than show you the beauty around **Bariloche** however. Instead, I would like to teach you how to get to the area’s most difficult to reach, and stunning, spots. And a lot of those spots happen to be high up, in the glaciers. So, on this trip, I would like to lead you on a thorough course that will teach you how to ice climb, so you can enjoy those **glaciers**. Thus giving you a chance to admire stunning surroundings, while also challenging yourself physically.

**Ice climbing** is not a simple endeavor. It is an activity that requires a lot of proper instruction and a lot of practice. It is also an activity where safety is absolutely paramount. You definitely don’t want to be careless on a **glacier**. As a result, we will cover many things on this trip. Some examples of what you will get to learn about include **how to prepare knots**, **how to walk in crampons**, **use an ice axe** and **rappel in ice and snow**. We will also cover **techniques of self-detention** and **how to progress on glaciers**. There will also be a lot of attention put toward **proper rescue techniques**, and much, much more.

This course will take you from **Pampa Linda** to the **Ventisquero glacier** to the **Otto Meiling refuge** to the **Pico Argentino** to the **Rocca refuge**. Hence giving you the chance to see a great deal of the landscape around **Bariloche**.

On the first day of the course, we will depart for Pampa Linda at 8:00 am. We'll meet at the Club Andino Bariloche. At 12:00, we'll depart to Refugio Meiling, where we have the option to get horses. Then, we'll ascent to Otto Meiling refuge. We'll dedicate the day to reaching the area. If there is time, we'll prepare the harness with the elements and main knots to use.

Pampa Linda

We'll make snow and ice techniques: ten and twelve-point techniques with and without ice axe. Self-arrest and progression techniques in snow.

Otto Meiling Refuge 

The course will continue on glacier progression: 3, 4 and 5-person ropes. Glacier shapes: types of crevasses. Choice and roped transit. Self-arrest techniques on glaciers. Placement of crampons and walking on glaciers in the ablation zone.

Today, depending on weather conditions, we will use everything you’ve learned over the last week and attempt to climb the Castaño Overa Glacier, La Motte, La Vieja, and the Alerce Glacier.

Today we'll make our way to the Rocca Refuge in the Paso de Las Nubes, where we'll spend the night.

Bariloche, 6 Day Guided Ice Climbing and Mountaineering Course

In the **Los Lagos Region**, in the Andean Range, there is a group of volcanoes with beautiful landscapes. On this **1-day program**, I invite you to climb **Osorno Volcano**, a stratovolcano with **2,652 meters** of altitude.

First of all, we will meet in **Puerto Varas City**, situated on the shore of **Llanquihue Lake**. From this point, we will be able to see a beautiful view of Osorno, Puntiagudo and Tronador volcanoes. Here, our ascent to Teski Refuge (1,150 meters) begins.

The ascent to the summit presents some steep sections and a **medium level of difficulty**. It will take us around **6-7 hours** to reach the top and we will face an elevation gain of **1,500 meters** from the refuge. This is why it is important to have **prior mountaineering experience** as well as a **good level of fitness** to take part in this climb.

Climb the Osorno Volcano in a day in the Los Lagos Region, Chile

Located in the north of **Patagonia**, in the border between Argentina and Chile, **Cerro Tronador** is an extinct stratovolcano with three summits: Internacional (3,478 meters), Pico Chileno (3,410 meters) and Pico Argentino (3,310 meters).

Cerro Tronador is also the tallest mountain inside the **Nahuel Huapi National Park**, one of the most important national parks in Argentina.

The goal of this mountaineering adventure will be **Pico Argentino**, situated on the Argentinean side of the range. First, we will have a brief, prepare our equipment and drive from **San Carlos de Bariloche** to the base of the mountain. On the way, we will get to see the Gutierrez and Mascardi lakes as well as some of the main mountains in the area, such as Cerro Catedral and Cerro Bonete, among others.

After registering to enter the park, we will begin the hike through the forest and discover the lovely local flora. We will slowly go into an alpine terrain and have the chance to see some of the beautiful condors. After 4-6 hours, we will reach the **Otto Meiling Refuge**, at **1,950 meters** of altitude, where we will rest and enjoy a meal.

On the following day, we will put our crampons on and face a long and moderate climb through the glacier to the col between Pico Argentino and Internacional. At this moment, the conditions change and the slope will be more pronounced, with an elevation gain of 150 meters. Once at the top, we will enjoy the wonderful views of the surroundings. Then, we will descend rappelling the hardest section and head back hiking to the refuge from the col.

On the last day, we will go to Pampa Linda and return to the city of Bariloche. Please, take into account that this itinerary may vary due to the conditions of the glacier. We can also add an extra day and practice ice climbing.

As for the level, keep in mind that it is mandatory to have a **good level of fitness**. However, prior technical experience is not required.
