Cerro Penitentes is located in the Andes Mountains in Mendoza Province in Argentina. This impressive peak boasts a 4,350m altitude and offers one of the most awe-inspiring views of the Andes and of Aconcagua from its summit. Furthermore, the Penitentes climb is straightforward and doesn’t require technical skills.

On this 3-day adventure, we will start by driving to Penitentes where we will set off on our hike towards the base camp. Then, on the second day, we will attempt the summit before returning to our campsite. Finally, on the third day, we will return to Mendoza. On the way, we will enjoy awe-inspiring views of the Andes and of Aconcagua. You can find a detailed itinerary below.

Please keep in mind that this is not a technical climb. However, you will need a good fitness level as we will be hiking between 5-7 hours per day. Additionally, the trek is more challenging in the winter and requires special equipment, so take this into consideration when planning. Of course, I will be there every step of the way to help and guide you.

Would you like to climb **an awesome peak in the Andes**? Then come to Mendoza for this **guided ascent to Cerro San Bernardo**, in the Cordon del Plata range!

Cordon del Plata is a sub-range of the Andes in the Province of Mendoza, Argentina. Cerro San Bernardo (4,150m) is one of its imposing peaks. **Located about 80 km from Mendoza City, this colorful mountain receives thousands of mountaineers every year.**

This 3-day trip is ideal both for those who want to start mountaineering and for those who want to explore the alpine region of Mendoza. We will cross **the stunning Cordon del Plata Provincial Park, a protected area where many guanacos and condors live**. Furthermore, we will sleep in tents surrounded by an awesome landscape.

From the top of San Bernardo, we will enjoy **breathtaking views of beautiful mountains** such as El Rincon, Vallecitos, Plata, Franke, Lomas Amarillas, Stepanek and Adolfo Calle!

Keep in mind that this adventure does not require special mountaineering skills. However, **you should have a good fitness level** as we will head up a steep and rocky slope. For more information, you can check the itinerary below!

Meeting in Mendoza and transfer to Vallecitos (2,900m). Hike towards Veguitas (3,200m), where we will set our camp.

After breakfast we will start climbing Cerro San Bernardo. The ascent will take us 5 or 6 hours. We’ll have lunch at the summit and get back to our camp.

3-day Cerro San Bernardo ascent in the Cordon del Plata, Mendoza

Located in the Tupungato and Luján de Cuyo regions in Mendoza, the Cordón del Plata subrange is famous among mountaineers training for high-altitude climbs in the Andes. On this 6-day Cerro Vallecitos ascent, we will reach the summit of the second highest peak in the Cordón del Plata and enjoy a unique experience as well as spectacular views.

Cerro Vallecitos is located within the Cordón del Plata Provincial Park. The subrange outlines the horizon towards the town of Potrerillos, just 70km away from Mendoza city. At 5469 m, it is the second highest in the subrange and one of the most popular "five-thousanders" in the area, as well as a great training ground for Aconcagua climbers.

Although climbing Vallecitos is not technically hard, it does require good acclimatization and an excellent fitness level. The time of ascent each day is around 6 to 8 hours and on summit day, we begin from an altitude of 4200m until we reach the 5400m summit. Keep in mind that we can include an optional porter service upon request for an extra fee, which would make the climb a bit easier. Regardless of the option you choose, the views from the summit will be well worth the effort!

Trekking 4 hours to Piedra Grande where we will spend the night 3500 m – Camp I

rekking 3-4 hours to the Salto de Agua camp where we will spend the night 4250 m –camp II Day 04: rest days at Salto de Agua camp 4250 m – camp II

Summit to Cerro Vallecitos 5500 m – 8 h approx.

Extra day in case of bad weather or lack of acclimatization.
