Rock Climbing Instructor

My name is Konstantinos Grafanakis, and I am a certified climbing coach and outdoor climbing instructor based permanently in Leonidio, Greece. Climbing has been part of my life for more than 20 years and has taken me on an incredible journey of learning, teaching, and exploring the outdoors.

What I enjoy most about my work is helping people build confidence and discover their potential through climbing. Over the years, I have coached climbers of all levels, from complete beginners experiencing outdoor climbing for the first time to experienced climbers looking to improve their movement skills, technique, and performance. My approach combines safety, technical coaching, and creating memorable experiences in nature.

Leonidio is my home and one of my favorite places to climb in the world. I love sharing its unique limestone walls, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant climbing community with visitors from around the globe. I am also passionate about discovering and contributing to climbing areas throughout Greece and have been involved in climbing route development and maintenance projects in several locations.

The experiences I love leading most are multi-day climbing courses and personalized coaching programs. I particularly enjoy helping indoor climbers make the transition to outdoor climbing, guiding beginners through their first climbing experiences on rock, and working with more advanced climbers who want to refine their technique and movement. Seeing someone's confidence grow over a few days of climbing together is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

For me, climbing is much more than reaching the top of a route. It is about learning, connecting with nature, challenging ourselves, and sharing meaningful experiences with others. My goal is for every climber to leave not only with improved skills, but also with unforgettable memories of climbing in Greece.

Kostas is the real deal! He has detailed knowledge of the area, safe and reliable climbing skills, and, he’s genuinely a fun person to hang out. You will not be disappointed if you have the opportunity to climb with Kostas.

Hands down, you couldn't ask for a better instructor or coach than Kostas. We spent two great days climbing with him in Leonidio, and it was an absolute pleasure and so giving in terms of climbing technique. Kostas is extremely skilled at reading your skill level and developing you from there, which is a gift. He prioritizes safety, and makes you feel completely secure. At the same time he's friendly, patient and has a great understanding of explaining the theory. All in all a great guy to be around and learn from, no matter your age or climbing experience. Kostas also speaks english without fault, so there's no language barrier for international travellers - and he gives great tips for future climbing and nature spots. Would recommend Kostas to anyone who really want to get their moneys worth when choosing a climbing instructor.

Great day of climbing with Kostas. He brought us to a really nice (and sunny 😁) sector with nice routes adapted to the different level of our small group of 3. Really friendly, helpfull and professionneal instructor, personaly involved in the developpement of rock climbing in Leonidio. You can also borrow from him all the climbing gear if needed. Woule recommend it 100%. Thanks again for this nice day.

Wonderful experience being guided by Kostas. Very calm and relaxing, but also encouraging and energetic. Accurate and safe and very clear in explanations and coaching. (Single pitch lead climbing). Thank you!

My 13-year-old son Lambro and I spent three unforgettable days climbing with Costa in Leonidio this April. Costa has a rare gift as an instructor — he managed to keep both of us challenged and engaged despite a big gap in ability (I climb 5c, Lambro is pushing into 7a+ territory). He planned each day thoughtfully. We started at Yellow Wall and Theós Pillar, which was a brilliant introduction — enough variety for both of us to find our rhythm on the rock. Day two at Twin Caves was the highlight: even though the cave routes were still wet from three days of rain, Costa adapted on the spot and had us both climbing the excellent wall routes to the left instead — Lambro loved every minute of it. On our final day at Sabaton, with its sea views and shade, Costa found the perfect balance of relaxed climbing and a few last challenges to finish the trip on a high. What sets Costa apart is more than just his technical skill. He genuinely cares about the climbing, the rock, and the community around it. You can tell Leonidio isn't just where he works — it's a place he's deeply invested in. He knows every sector, every approach, and has thoughtful opinions on which routes suit which climber. Lambro is already asking when we can go back. That says everything. We couldn't recommend Costa more highly — whether you're a beginner finding your feet or an experienced climber looking to push your grade, you're in excellent hands.
