Sitting roughly 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) northeast of Ushuaia, Laguna Esmeralda is a stunningly scenic location tucked into the tip of the Andes Mountains!

Our adventure to this unique and interesting place begins at 9 am when I come to pick you up at your accommodation and we drive on to the trailhead.

From here, we will hike on mostly flat terrain, passing through a native forest, hanging glaciers and imperious looking mountains before we arrive at the emerald-green waters of the laguna.

The laguna is surrounded by the Glaciar Albino, a craggy peak known as Las Torres and another one known as El Cordón Toribio. In this stunningly scenic spot, we will stop to enjoy lunch.

After eating lunch, we can visit a small waterfall and then begin trekking back to the trailhead and driving back to Ushuaia.

Overall, the hike is fairly easy since it is mostly flat. We will walk about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) round trip and only gain 100 meters (330 feet) in elevation.

1-day Trek to Laguna Esmeralda, Ushuaia

Sitting just north of the city of Ushuaia, Cerro del Medio rises up to about 800 meters (2,624 feet) above sea level.

From its exposed summit, hikers can enjoy panoramic views out over Tierra del Fuego. Both the city and the Beagle Channel are easily seen as well as the rest of this easternmost tip of the Andes Mountains.

Our adventure to the summit begins at 9 am, after I pick you up from your accommodation and we drive to the trailhead at the north of the city, arriving by 9:45.

We begin the hike by heading through a Fueguino forest, steadily increasing in elevation until we break out above the trees and begin getting our first views out over the surrounding landscape.

By 1:00 pm, we will arrive at the Laguna Margot and just half an hour later, we will reach the summit.

Be sure to bring proper hiking boots for this 10.1-kilometer (6.2 miles) roundtrip hike, as the trail gets quite muddy underfoot and there is oftentimes snow at the summit.

Situated just to the north of Ushuaia, nestled into the Carbajal Valley, Glaciar Vinciguerra is the perfect destination for an exemplary 1-day trekking experience!

After picking you up from your accommodations at 9 am, the fun begins! We will  transfer to the trailhead via the Andorra tram and by 10 am, we will be out into the wilderness.

As we spend the morning making our way to the glacier, passing through a peat bog, Fuegian forest and by mountain lagoons en route to the glacier.

Once we have arrived at the base of the glacier, we will have spend an hour eating lunch and enjoying stunning views of this behemoth ice sheet, which reaches up to 800 meters (2,600 feet) thick in some parts.

We will also have the chance to explore some nearby ice caves too, before we begin to hike back out of the valley and toward the trailhead, at which we will arrive by about 6 pm.

Glaciar Vinciguerra, 1-day trekking in Ushuaia

Towering 1,450 meters (4,757 feet) above sea level, Mount Alvear is the third highest peak on the Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego and makes for quite the mountain climbing experience!

From the summit, we will enjoy phenomenal views out over the surrounding Andean peaks, glaciers, Fueguino forests and over Laguna Esmeralda!

Our adventure begins in Ushuaia at 7 am on the day of the climb. After meeting up at your accommodation, we will transfer to the trailhead and begin the approach at 7:30.

As we go, we will pass through a peat bog, the native Fueguino forest and past several mountain lagoons.

By about noon, we will have reached the summit, from which we will enjoy panoramic views out over our surroundings, including the nearby Cerro Alvear, Sierra de Alvear and Cerro Castor.

After about half an hour at the summit, we will begin our descent. Once we are at the base of the mountain, we will eat our lunch, before returning to the trailhead and transferring back to Ushuaia.
