**IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guide from Chile**

I am Sebastian Rojas Schmidt from Cajón del Maipo. I leave in the middle of the mountains in a small mountain hut during the winter season and, the rest of the year, I travel between Patagonia, the Andes, the Alps or Himalaya.

I have climbed many summits in South America´s Patagonia and 2 mountains over 8000 meters: the Anapurna (8091m) and the Broad Peak (8047m).

I guide all around the Andes, Patagonia, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. I climb and do mountaineering during the summer, and freeride, ski touring and ice climbing during the winter.

If you want to go on a South American climb that is simultaneously **mind-blowing, peaceful, action-packed, beautiful and enthralling**, then this is the trip for you.

Over 7 days we will explore the magical Marmelejo, a grand and majestic mountain that straddles the Chile-Argentina border in the heart of the Andes, and is **the southernmost 6000m-plus peak in the world.**

Assembling in the irresistible and buzzing city of Santiago, we then drive to the start point of the trip, the Engorda Valley in the Cajón del Maipo (Maipo Canyon), whose **raw beauty and tranquil landscapes** will take the breath away before we even think about ascending the mountain!

Over the subsequent 6 days we will hike for up to 7 hours a day, going from camp to camp whilst sleeping in warm sleeping bags and tents – and although it is not for the faint-hearted, it is **the ideal place to experience your first high-altitude mountaineering trip.**

The reward for this hard work is when we reach the peak, with some of the most **stunning panoramic views of the Andes and Cajón del Maipo** imaginable. It is not an understatement to say the sights and sounds you experience up there will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Along the way you will get to hike along the striking Marmolejo Glacier, and for some the highlight of the trip is our last-day **visit to the Colina hot springs** to help our weary limbs recover!

We finish the trip by driving back to our meeting point in Santiago, hopefully with a heart full of love for this special part of the world.

Rising to 6,108 meters above sea level, Marmolejo casts an imposing shadow  over the Chile-Argentina border and presents an incredible challenge and adventure for ski tourers.

The stratovolcano is the southernmost 6,000 meter peak  in the Andes and provides both excellent slopes down which to ski and incredible views from its summit.

Over the course of our eight days together, we will make an approach through the remote and wild Cajón del Maipo before conquering this stunning peak.

Beginning in Santiago de Chile, we will head to Valle de la Engorda, where we will spend the night, before hiking up to our base camp the following day.

From base camp, we will spend the next three days skiing toward Marmoleja. One of the best parts of climbing this peak is that it is very remote and we will likely be the only people in this sublime wilderness.

The sixth day of the trip will be summit day and we will climb up to the top, where we will enjoy some thrilling views, before skiing back down to either the camp we stayed in on day three or four.

After this, we will make our way back to Valle de la Engorda before returning to Santiago.

I will guide you on this awesome and sublime 1+ day of freeride skiing in El Colorado, near Santiago (Farellones, Chile), one of South America’s top freeride skiing locale’s that is renowned for its **amazingly deep and fresh powder, great views out over the Chilean countryside and wide open, enjoyable slopes to ski on.**

El Colorado is a Chilean skiing area **located just 39km away from the capital city of the country, Santiago**, and is a very popular skiing destination as a result of this close proximity. World freeride skiing events are held at El Colorado each year, adding to its reputation as a good freeride skiing location.

Our trip begins in the morning, at approximately 8:30am, when we pick you up from either of the 2 ski resorts of **Farellones or Valle Nevado.**

Once at El Colorado we go straight in to the freeride skiing, and over the course of the day we have **the opportunity to undertake up to 4 descents of 1000m or more.**

It is hard to overstate how good the conditions here are for freeride skiing, as they are tucked away from the busy ski resorts and take advantage of the **clean, crisp weather and conditions that Chile is known for**.

Myself and the other guides are all very passionate about freeride skiing, and if you are too then we promise these trips will be truly memorable experiences.

After a whole day of wearing ourselves out with the immense amount of freeride skiing, we then drop you back at your accommodation in Farellones or Valle Nevado, hopefully having made you love Chile even more and whetted your appetite for more freeride skiing.

Cajon del Maipo is a canyon located approximately a 3-hour drive from the Chilean capital city of Santiago, and is known for containing some of the highest mountain and volcano peaks in the country, including **Marmolejo (6108m), the most southerly 6000m+ mountain in the world.**

Our trip begins when I pick you up at 8am at Los Valdes or Lodge el Morado, and from there we **drive to my refuge, located at 2700m high**, which will be our base for the day.

From the refuge we then have free reign of the mountains around us, and I will **utilize my expert local knowledge to help choose the most fun and enjoyable places to go, as we hike and ski on excellent and fresh powder.**

The conditions are almost perfect here, and along the way there will be ample time to stop and admire some of the **truly epic views of the landscape, scenery and terrain in front of us**, with the vast tracts of Chilean countryside stretching out to the horizon.

Our day finishes by heading back to the refuge and then dropping you back to your pick-up point at around 5pm, hopefully having whetted your appetite to indulge in more ski touring in this sensational place.
