Join me on this 8-day Kilimanjaro expedition via the Lemosho Route and I promise **you will bear witness to some of the most spectacular and stunning views of the landscape, scenery and terrain of Tanzania**, as we trek up to the summit of Africa’s highest peak via this challenging yet rewarding route.

Mount Kilimanjaro, nestled within the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania, is a mountain standing 5895m high, and is **famous for being the highest mountain in Africa**. Ascending to the summit of the mountain is an immensely popular activity, with people also wanting to bear witness to the massive glaciers that dot the landscape.

We meet on the first morning in nearby Moshi Town, from where we then transfer to our starting point, the Lemosho Gate on the Western side of Kilimanjaro. We then begin trekking in earnest, as we wade through the Lemosho Glades to reach our first overnight campsite, Big Tree Camp (2780m).

The subsequent 3 days are spent making our way to Barranco Camp (3960m) via Shira 1 Camp (3500m) and Shira 2 Camp (3900m), with **highlights including walking through plateaus of grassy moorland, viewing the Northern Ice Fields and hiking through lava ridges beneath the numerous glaciers.**

From Barranco Camp we head towards the Great Barranco, **a humongous and mesmerizing ravine**, before an overnight stay at Karanga Camp (3963m) and onwards to Barafu Camp (4640m).

Each day of the trip entails vital and important acclimatization to the high altitudes, hence the many trips up to higher altitudes before sleeping each night in lower altitudes.

The penultimate day is the undoubted highlight of the trip for all, as we scale the summit of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, slogging our way for 8 hours of physically and mentally tough trekking to reach Uhuru Peak (5895m), **with views out over all of Africa and a truly special part of the world.**

Following this is the descent and finish of the trip on the 8th day, where you will hopefully be mentally and physically shattered, but proud at completing such a great achievement.

You will be picked up at your hotel at around 08:00am and transferred to the Lemosho gate located on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After the registration process you will still start our climb steadily through the forests of the Lemosho glades to reach Big Tree camp where you will be spending the night.

Lemosho Glades (2385m) to Big Tree Camp (2780m)

Today you will trek across a plateau of grassy moorland and heather scattered with volcanic rock formations. Our destination for today is the Shira 1 Camp from where there are often views of Kibo Peak floating on the clouds. We gain a reasonable amount of altitude today and parts of the route are fairly steep.

Big Tree Camp (2780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3500m)

Today you will get the chance to view the Northern Ice fields from the western side of the mountain with some unusual views of Kibo. Our steady climb across the moorland of the Shira Plateau will help with acclimatization and we enjoy great panoramic views. Our destination today is the Shira 2 Camp. In the afternoon you will take an acclimatization walk then head back to camp for dinner and overnight.

Shira 1 Camp (3500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m)

Your trek starts with an ascent with far-reaching panoramic views, walking in to the climatic zone of the upland desert and on the lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. You will reach the distinct pinnacle of the Lava Tower (4640 m), our high point for the day and a great place to enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon we make a steep descent to our camp for the night, located in the base of the Great Barranco Valley (3960 m), sheltered by towering cliffs but with extensive views of the plains below.

Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)

Our day starts by descending into the start of the Great Barranco, a huge ravine. We then exit steeply, up the Great Barranco Wall, which divides us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. It’s a climb over rock, not technical but long and tiring. Passing underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we head towards the Karanga valley. From here we have a steep climb up from Karanga valley to our night’s camp at Karanga camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling strong we will go for a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek up to around 4200m before descending back to camp for the night.

Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)

After a good night’s rest and breakfast, we set off on our walk to Barafu camp at 4640m. The climb will take us across desolate scree slopes with no vegetation around us at all. It’s a tough steep walk made more difficult by the altitude. On arriving at camp we eat and spend the afternoon resting as we prepare for a long night and day ahead. It is important to keep hydrated and warm. We have an early dinner and then try to get some sleep as we will be getting up at between 11pm and 12 pm to start the climb to the summit.

Karanga Camp (3963) to Barafu Camp (4640m)

You will be awoken around 23:30 with hot tea and biscuits. Hopefully you have managed to get a few hours’ sleep; don’t worry if you haven’t as most people struggle to sleep before summit night. Do however make sure that all your kit, including warm clothes, headlamp, insulated water reserves and snacks are ready for a sharp departure at 24:00. The trek up Kibo is steep and slow. The trick is to keep your momentum moving forward, one step at a time. It takes about 6-8 hours to reach the top of the crater rim where you will see the sign for Stella Point (5,739 meters). You still have another 156 meters of altitude to walk around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). After reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro, a 4.5km / 3 mile ascent, you still have an 11km / 7 mile descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters)! Mweka is situated in the upper part of the rain-forest zone. The richness of oxygen and moisture in the air will be a very welcome surprise.

Barafu Camp (4,680 meters) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) and then Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) 

In the morning after breakfast you will be trekking down to Mweka gate. The trek is a pleasant one through the lower rain-forested slopes and down to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters). Although you cover 9km / 5.5 miles, the trek only takes 3-4 hours. Assuming you successfully reach Stella Point or Uhuru Peak you will be presented with official certificates – a green certificate for the former and a gold certificate for the latter. It is customary to tip your trekking crew before being transported back to your hotel in Moshi.

Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters)

**Experience the remote adventure on Kilimanjaro's northern ascent, the Rongai Route,** which takes you through the Kenyan side of the mountai**n. Join us for this unique journey!**

The Rongai Route stands out as the only path ascending Kilimanjaro from the north, on the Kenyan border. This remote location offers a true wilderness experience, untouched by the crowds found on other trails.

Hike across untouched wilderness where you may encounter wildlife such as antelopes, elephants, and buffaloes. The arid northeast region experiences minimal rainfall, increasing the possibility of enjoying uninterrupted views of the magnificent mountain.

The Rongai Route has a gentler incline compared to other Kilimanjaro climbs. However, this flatter profile limits the option for "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization.

While a 6-day option exists,  7 or 8-day itineraries are highly recommended. These extended treks provide crucial extra acclimatization days for a more successful summit attempt. The Rongai Route's final ascent to Uhuru Peak is challenging, mirroring the steep climb of the Marangu Route via Gilman's Point. However, the reward is unmatched!&#x20;

This unique route has the least traffic on Kilimanjaro, offering a true escape into the wilderness. Although the descent follows the Marangu trail, the majority of your journey is a secluded adventure.

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Arusha (1400m), you will be picked up and driven to the Marangu Gate (1980m). At the gate, the porters will prepare for the hike while you register with Tanzania National Park. Following this, you'll be taken to the Rongai trailhead, a 2.5-hour drive from the Marangu Gate.

The trail starts in cornfields, transitions to a pine forest with a gentle incline, offering hikers a pleasant journey. A lunch break is scheduled halfway up the trail before arriving at the 1st Caves Camp (2600m) by late afternoon or early evening. The porters and chef will have already set up camp, provided water, snacks, and dinner. Prepare for potentially freezing temperatures overnight on the mountain.

Hike to 1st Caves Camp

After breakfast, hikers will proceed with their climb towards Kikelewa Cave (3600m), passing by Second Cave (3450m), a good lunch stop. Upon reaching camp, tents will be ready, with porters arranging drinking and washing water. Evening snacks and dinner will be served by the chef, as temperatures may plummet below freezing at this open camp, so prepare accordingly for a cold night.

Kikelewa Cave

Hikers will tackle a brief but steep path to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m) on this day, passing through the moorland where unique flora like giant lobelia and groundsel can be seen. Upon arrival, hikers can take in breathtaking views, acclimate to the altitude, and witness a stunning sunset.&#x20;

A hot dinner and washing water will be provided, allowing hikers to relax and enjoy the evening at this cozy camp.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp

After breakfast, hikers will proceed with a half-day ascent to Kibo Hut located in the "Saddle," between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks in an alpine desert. This camp lacks water facilities, but hikers can purchase drinks at the camp office. An early dinner will be provided to allow hikers to rest before their summit attempt that night.&#x20;

Guides will offer detailed instructions on preparing for the summit night, emphasizing the importance of resting early, aiming for lights out by 19:00.

Kibo Hut

Your guide will awaken you at around 23:30 for a light meal of tea and biscuits before commencing the summit push. The trail is rugged as you climb to Hans Meyer Cave (5150m) and then further to Gillman's Point (5681m), a challenging section due to its steep, rocky terrain at high altitude. Gillman's Point marks the rim of the crater, with a snowy path leading to the ultimate goal, Uhuru Peak (5895m).&#x20;

Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a monumental achievement, offering a brief opportunity for photos and refreshments before beginning the descent to Barafu. The journey back to Kibo Hut lasts approximately 3 hours.&#x20;

At Kibo Hut, you can relax in the sun, savor a warm lunch, then proceed with the descent to Horombo Hut (3720m). After a satisfying dinner, washing up, and a demanding day, you can rest comfortably at the hut.

Conquer Uhuru Peak

After a satisfying breakfast, your team will host a lively celebration filled with dancing and singing. This mountain gathering is where you will distribute tips to the guide, assistant guides, chefs, and porters. Following the festivities, you will embark on a 6-hour descent back to Marangu Gate (1980m).&#x20;

The National Park mandates all hikers to sign off for certificates of accomplishment. Those who reached Gillman’s Point (5681m) will be awarded green certificates, while those who conquered Uhuru Peak (5895m) will receive gold certificates. Once you have your certificates in hand, you will be driven back to your hotel in Moshi.

Marangu Gate

You will be picked up from Arusha at 9:30 in the morning and transported to the Marangu Gate

The following 3 days are spent making our way to Kibo Hut (4700m) via Kikelewa Cave (3600m) and Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m), with highlights along the way including **moorlands with exotic plants, a trek through an alpine desert and numerous jaw-dropping and breath-taking views of the mountains around us.**

There will be in-built acclimatization time on every day leading up to the summit day to help prepare you for the difficulty of the high altitudes in the upper reaches of the mountain, which are extremely mentally and physically draining.

Day 5 is when we tackle the crowning glory of the trip, the summit, as we first head to Gillman’s Point (5681m) via a steep and rocky path at very high altitude, before we reach the glorious summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m), enabling us to **look out over the African plains and feel like we’re on top of the world. You will definitely want pictures at this spot!**

We finish our adventure on day 6 back at our starting point, thrilled and proud at having scaled this mighty peak.

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Arusha (1400m) and driven to the Marangu Gate (1980m). At the gate, the porters will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your guide register with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). You will then be transferred by vehicle to the Rongai trailhead, which is 2.5 hours away from the Managu Gate. The trail begins in the tall cornfields then leads into the pine forest. This trail has a gradual ascent and allows hikers to enjoy their surroundings. About halfway up the trail you will have a lunch break and you will reach the 1st Caves Camp (2600m) in the late afternoon or early evening. The porters and chef, who move very fast up the mountain, will reach camp before you and set up your tents, boil drinking water, and prepare snacks for your arrival. After washing up, a hot dinner will be served. For overnight, mountain temperatures may drop to freezing so be prepared!

Rongai Gate (1950m) – 1st Caves Camp (2600m)

Following a hot breakfast, hikers will continue their ascent to Kikelewa Cave (3600m). The trail passes Second Cave (3450m) and this is a good spot to take a lunch break. Similar to the first night, your tents will be set up prior to arriving at camp and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks then dinner prepared by our chef. Be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp.

1st Caves Camp (2600m) – Kikelewa Cave (3600m)

On this day, hikers will enjoy a short, yet steep trail to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m). In the moorland, you will spot exotic plants, including giant lobelia and groundsel. At camp, hikers will enjoy spectacular views and allow their bodies to acclimate. Hot dinner and washing water will be prepared for hikers as they enjoy the magnificent sunset.

Kikelewa Cave (3600) – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m)

After breakfast, hikers will continue ascending east for a half-day hike to Kibo Hut. Kibo is located in the “Saddle,” which refers to the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in an alpine desert. There is no water at this camp, but hikers can buy mineral water and soft drinks at the camp office. An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night. Get to sleep by 19:00!

Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m) – Kibo Hut (4700m)

Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The trail is rocky up to Hans Meyer Cave (5150m). You continue your ascent to Gillman’s point (5681m). Reaching this section is an impressive achievement as the trail is steep, rocky, and at high altitude. Gillman’s is located on the crater rim. From this point, you will usually experience a snow covered trail until you reach the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime accomplishment! You will be able to spend a short time on the summit taking photographs and drinking tea before the descent to Barafu begins. The hike down to Kibo Hut takes about 3 hours.

At Kibo Hut, you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After eating, you will continue descending down to Horombo Hut (3720m). You will have a dinner, wash, and rest soundly at the hut after a strenuous day.

Summit Attempt Kibo Hut (4700m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Horombo Hut (3720m)

Following a well-deserved breakfast, your staff will have a big celebration full of dancing and singing. It is here on the mountain that you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters. After celebrating, you will descend for 6 hours back to Marangu Gate (1980m). The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Gillman’s Point (5681m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. After receiving certificates, you will drive back to Moshi in your hotel.

Horombo Hut (3720m) – Marangu Gate (1980m)

I will guide you on this absolutely amazing, epic and awesome 7-day climb of Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route, an exquisite trail that takes in the best scenery the mountain has to offer, from **picturesque rainforests and rocky ridges, to mesmerizing glaciers and sublime views back out over the land from the highest point in Africa.**

Mount Kilimanjaro, nestled within the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania, is a mountain standing 5895m high, and is **famous for being the highest mountain in Africa**. Ascending to the summit of the mountain is an immensely popular activity, with people also wanting to bear witness to the massive glaciers that dot the landscape.

Our journey begins in the town of Moshi, located very close to the mountain, and from here we drive to our starting point, Machame Gate.

After spending the first night in the Machame Camp (2980m), the subsequent 2 days are spent traipsing and travailing around **rainforest, moorland, and arid, rocky terrain, with overnight stays at both Shira Camp (3840m) and Barranco Camp (3950m).**

Most days of this trip are devoted to helping everyone acclimatize to the very high altitude that we encounter, with ascents to higher altitudes during the day before descending to lower heights at night.

Highlights of days 4 and 5 include tackling the **Great Barranco Wall and views of Heim Glacier above the clouds.**

Day 6 is the climax and undoubted highlight of our adventure, as we scale the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This part is very demanding, both physically and mentally, but the payoff is fantastic, as **after 8 hours of intense hiking we make it to the highest point, Uhuru Peak (5895m)**, an astonishing place where we will allow you to admire the views and take photographs, feeling like you’re on top of the world!

We then begin our descent all the way back to our overnight camp of Mweka (3100m), and the finish the trip at Mweka Gate on day 7, hopefully weary, happy, satisfied and proud at having accomplished such a mighty feat.

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Arusha (1400m) and driven to the Machame Village. In the village, you can buy mineral water and will receive a packed lunch. From the village, depending on the road conditions, you will either continue  to drive from the village to the Machame gate, but if not, the muddy 3 km walk will take about 1 hour to complete. After registering at the gate office, you start your ascent and enter the rain forest almost immediately. There is a strong possibility of rain in the forest, which will transform the trail into a very soggy, muddy and slippery experience. You will have a welcome lunch stop about half way and will reach the Machame camping area in the late afternoon.

Your porters (arriving at the camp site long before you) will have erected your tent on your arrival. In the evening the porters will boil drinking and washing water and the cook will prepare dinner, before you retire to your tent for the night. Night temperatures can already drop to freezing point at this campsite.

Machame Gate (1490m) – Machame Camp (2980m) 

After an early morning breakfast, you will start you ascent leaving the rain forest and entering the heathland moorland vegetation. You will cross many streams and walk over a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau that leads to Shira Camp (3840m). At this campsite, you will be next to a stream and have a spectacular view of the Western Breach and its glaciers in the East. Similar to the first night, your tents will be set up prior to arriving at camp and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks then dinner prepared by our chef. Be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp.

Machame Camp (2980m) – Shira Camp (3840m)

Following an early morning breakfast, you will leave the moorland environment and enter the semi desert and rocky landscape. After 5 hours of walking east, you will be come face to face with the Lava Tower (4630m). Packed lunches are served at the Tower and hikers have the option of climbing the massive Lava Tower weather permitting. At this point of the hike, it is normal for hikers to start feeling the effects from the altitude including headaches and shortness of breath.

After lunch, you will descend from Lava Tower (4630m) to the Barranco Campsite (3950m). The 6800m descent gives hikers a huge advantage to allow their bodies to adjust to the conditions of high altitude. The descent to camp takes around 2 hours to reach. It is located in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”). Drinking and washing water and dinner will be served as hikers view the sun setting.

Shira (at 3840m) – Lava Tower (at 4630m) – Barranco camp (at 3950m) 

After an early morning breakfast, it is now time to conquer the Great Barranco Wall! Although it may look intimating at first glance, hikers state that this Class 2 hike is usually much easier than they anticipated. At the top of the Wall, you will have a view of Heim Glacier and will be above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down in the Karanga Valley. This is an ideal hiking day for acclimatization.

Barranco Camp (3950m) – Karanga Camp (3950m)

Following breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp (3959m). The trail intersects with the Mweka Route, which is the trail used to descend on the final two days. As you continue hiking for an hour, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters because there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4550m). The word “barafu” in Swahili means “ice” and this camp is located on a rocky, exposed ridge. Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks so it is important for hikers to familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark. Karanga Camp (3959m) – Barafu Hut (4600m)

Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The route heads northwest and you will ascend over stone scree. During the ascent, many hikers feel that this is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the climb. In about 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point (5685m), located on the crater rim. After enjoying the magnificent sunrise, you will continue ascending for about 2 hours on a snow-covered trail to Uhuru Peak (5895m). Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime accomplishment! You will be able to spend a short time on the summit taking photographs and drinking tea before the descent to Barafu begins. The hike down to Barafu Camp takes about 3 hours.

At camp, you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After eating, you will continue descending down to Mweka Hut (3100m). The Mweka Trail will lead you through the scree and rocks to the moorland and eventually into the rain forest. Mweka Camp (3100m) is located in the upper rain forest, so fog and rain should be expected. You will have a dinner, wash, and rest soundly at camp.

Summit Attempt - Barafu camp (4600m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka (3100m)

Following a well-deserved breakfast, your staff will have a big celebration full of dancing and singing. It is here on the mountain that you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters. After celebrating, you will descend for three hours back to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Stella Point (5685m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. After receiving certificates, hikers will descend into the Mweka village for 1 hour (3 kilometers). After receiving certificates, you will drive back to your hotel in Moshi.

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Arusha (1400m) and transported to the Machame Village. In the village, you can purchase mineral water and will be provided with a packed lunch.

Depending on the road conditions, you will either drive from the village to the Machame gate, or if not possible, you will embark on a muddy 3 km walk that takes about 1 hour to complete.

Upon registering at the gate office, you will begin your ascent and enter the rainforest almost immediately. Expect the trail in the forest to become very soggy, muddy, and slippery due to the high chance of rain.

A lunch stop is scheduled about halfway through the trek, and you will reach the Machame camping area in the late afternoon. Your porters will have set up your tent ahead of your arrival.

In the evening, the porters will boil drinking and washing water, while the cook prepares dinner before you retire to your tent for the night.

Night temperatures at this campsite can drop to freezing point.

Machame Camp

After an early morning breakfast, you will begin your ascent, leaving the rainforest and entering the heathland moorland vegetation. You will traverse many streams and trek over a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau, leading to Shira Camp (3840m).

At this campsite, you will be situated next to a stream with a stunning view of the Western Breach and its glaciers to the East.

Similar to the first night, your tents will be set up before your arrival, and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water. You will enjoy evening snacks followed by dinner prepared by our chef.

Expect a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp.

Shira Camp

After an early morning breakfast, you will depart from the moorland environment and transition into the semi-desert and rocky landscape. Following a 5-hour walk to the east, you will reach the Lava Tower (4630m). Packed lunches will be served at the Tower, and hikers can choose to climb the massive Lava Tower if weather conditions permit.

At this stage of the hike, it is common for hikers to start experiencing altitude-related effects such as headaches and shortness of breath.

After lunch, you will descend from Lava Tower (4630m) to the Barranco Campsite (3950m). The 680m descent offers hikers a significant advantage in acclimatizing to the high altitude conditions.

The descent to the camp typically takes about 2 hours to complete. The camp is nestled in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall (known as the "Breakfast Wall").

Drinking and washing water will be provided, and dinner will be served as hikers enjoy the sunset views.

Barranco Camp

Following an early morning breakfast, it is time to tackle the Great Barranco Wall!

Despite its initial intimidating appearance, hikers often find this Class 2 hike to be more manageable than expected.

Upon reaching the top of the Wall, you will be rewarded with a view of Heim Glacier and will find yourself above the clouds.

The trail continues to meander up and down in the Karanga Valley, making it an excellent day for acclimatization.

Karanga Camp

After breakfast, you will depart from Karanga Camp (3959m) and follow the trail that merges with the Mweka Route, the path used for the final two days of descent.

Continuing your hike for about an hour, you will arrive at Barafu Hut. This serves as the last water point for the porters as there is no available water at Barafu Camp (4550m).

The term "barafu" translates to "ice" in Swahili, and this camp is situated on a rocky, exposed ridge. Due to the windy and rocky conditions, it is essential for hikers to familiarize themselves with the campsite before nightfall.

An early dinner will be provided to allow hikers to rest before their summit attempt later that night. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing on preparing for the summit push.

It is recommended to get some rest and sleep early by 19:00 to prepare for the challenging summit night ahead.

Barafu hut

Your guide will wake you up around 23:30 to have tea and biscuits before commencing your summit attempt.

The route takes you northwest as you ascend over stone scree, a mentally and physically demanding part of the climb for many hikers. After approximately 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point (5685m) on the crater rim, where you can witness a breathtaking sunrise.

Continuing for about 2 hours on a snow-covered trail, you will finally reach Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point of Mt. Kilimanjaro, marking a significant lifetime achievement. Spend a brief period at the summit capturing photos and savoring the moment with tea before beginning the descent back to Barafu Camp, which typically takes around 3 hours.

Upon returning to camp, you can relax, bask in the sun, and enjoy a warm lunch. Following the meal, the descent to Mweka Hut (3100m) commences. The Mweka Trail guides you through scree and rocks, transitioning from moorland to the rainforest zone. Expect fog and rain in the upper rainforest where Mweka Camp (3100m) is situated.

Conclude your day with dinner, washing up, and a well-deserved rest at the campsite.

Uhuru Peak

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, your team will host a lively celebration filled with dancing and singing on the mountain. This is the moment when you will express your appreciation by presenting tips to the guide, assistant guides, chefs, and porters.

Following the festivities, you will embark on a three-hour descent back to Mweka Gate. The National Park mandates hikers to sign their names to obtain certificates of accomplishment.

Hikers who reached Stella Point (5685m) will be awarded green certificates, while those who conquered Uhuru Peak (5895m) will receive gold certificates.

Then, you will trek for about an hour (3 kilometers) to Mweka village where you'll be driven back to your hotel in Moshi.

At the start of the trip you will be picked up from Arusha and transported to Machame Village.

The magnificent and towering Kilimanjaro is one of the most famous and popular mountains in the world, and I will guide you on **a thrilling, fun and exciting 6-day trek to the summit via the Marangu Route**, the oldest and most popular route to the summit owing to its quicker time, hut accommodation and exquisite, superb scenery.

Mount Kilimanjaro, nestled within the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania, is a mountain standing 5895m high, and is **famous for being the highest mountain in Africa**. Ascending to the summit of the mountain is an immensely popular activity, with people also wanting to bear witness to the massive glaciers that dot the landscape.

Our adventure begins in nearby Moshi Town, and we then head to the starting point of our trek, the Marangu Gate.

The first 2 days of the trip are spent trekking through rainforest, mud, rain and fog to reach the Mandara Hut (2700m), before heading onwards to the Horombo Hut (3720m). **There is the opportunity to hike through moorlands full of exotic local plants and animals**, and day 3 is fully devoted to acclimatizing to the immensely high altitudes you will encounter in the upper reaches of the mountain.

The next day there is the choice of 2 routes to the Kibo Hut (4700m), the upper route and lower route, with the main discernible difference being the trekking time.

After a night in this hut we then tackle the summit of Kilimanjaro, the best and most exciting part of the trip, as we spend 8 physically and mentally challenging hours trekking to Uhuru Peak (5895m), where **you will feel on top of the world looking out over the clouds and the African countryside, making sure you get as many photos as possible!**

Our fun-filled adventure ends on day 6 as we head back down to the starting point, proud and happy at having accomplished such a beautiful achievement.

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Moshi and driven to the Marangu Gate (1980m). At the gate, the porters will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your guide register with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). You will then begin your ascent into the rain-forest. During this section of the hike, you should expect rain, mud, and fog. Also, be on the look out for wildlife, including Colobus monkeys! After 3-4 hours of ascending, you will reach the Mandara Hut (2700m). Each hut has 6-8 sleeping bunks (sleeps 60 hikers total) with solar generated lighting. Next to the central hut there are flush toilets. The porters, who arrive at the campsite before the clients, will boil water for drinking and washing. The chef will prepare a snack then dinner for the clients. At nighttime, mountain temperatures may drop to freezing so be prepared!

Marangu Gate (1980m) – Mandara Hut (2700m)

Following breakfast, hikers will begin their ascent out of the rainforest and into the heathen moorland. Hikers will pass the Maundi Crater and are able to climb up to its rim for a spectacular view of the Kibo Crater. In the moorland, you will spot exotic plants, including giant lobelia and groundsel. After 6 hours of hiking, you will reach Horombo Hut (3720m). Horombo Hut sleeps 120 hikers and is located on a small plateau. Similar to the first night, the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks then dinner prepared by our chef. Be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this site.

Mandara Hut (2700m) – Horombo Hut (3720m)

At Horombo Hut, you will spend the day allowing your body to acclimate to high altitude. You will have the option of doing a day hike to Mawenzi Hut (4600m) for further acclimatization with your guide. Breakfast and dinner will be at the hut and lunch will either be packed or at the hut depending on your preference for the day.

Horombo Hut (3720m) – Acclimatization Day

Following an early morning breakfast, you will continue your ascent into the alpine desert habitat. Hikers have the option of 2 trails that lead to Kibo Hut (4700m). The upper route (located to the right of the fork) is the same trail used the previous day for the day hike to Mawenzi Hut. The lower route (located to the left of the fork) is the more popular route because it is a shorter hiking distance (1 hour shorter).

Kibo Hut is located in the “Saddle,” which refers to the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in an alpine desert. There is no water at this camp, but hikers can buy mineral water and soft drinks at the camp office. An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night. Get to sleep by 19:00!

Horombo Hut (3720m) – Kibo Hut (4700m)
