Discover a fascinating land of volcanoes, lava fields and glaciers on this amazing trek in central Iceland, along with UIMLA mountain leader and IPGA polar guide Michael!
I invite you to an amazing 15-day trek accross icelandic Highlands to discover the incredible wilderness of this country. Join me for an unforgettable experience on a fascinating land!
Iceland’s spectacular landscape offers geysers and hot springs, volcanoes and icefields, wild waterfalls and glaciers. It lies in the North Atlantic Ocean, between Europe and North America. Also, it’s close to the Arctic Circle.
This is second part of a Great North-South crossing of Iceland (in 3 parts, one each summer). You need to have an adventurous mind to enjoy the experience. Also, this trek in the most remote parts of Iceland is for people with no fear of the unknown!
Every day, we will hike for about 6 to 8 hours. So, you need to be in good physical condition. Some of the key spots of this trek are the following:
The colorful rhyolites, geothermic activity and hot springs of Vonaskard
the edge of the largest ice cap in Europe, the Vatnajökull,
the black sand desert of Jokulheimar & the braids of the glacial Tungnaá River
the beautiful lake of Langisjór, the green and mossy hills of Fögrufjöll, the mighty river Skaftá
Eldgjá rift, the hot spring of Strutslaug
the secret beauties of the Torfajökull caldera
A previous self-sufficient hiking experience is advised, although not required. Also, be aware we will hike on rough ground.
Contact me if you want to join me on this incredible trek accross icelandic highlands ! We will spend an unforgettable time on this amazing and wild land.

During the last 15 years, I spent more than 1100 days in raids and expeditions to polar and boreal regions. Among those, more than 500 days were dedicated to expeditions and I traveled more than 7000 km skiing or kite-skiing... But let's forget big words and try to explain the deep convictions behind what I do:
To research.. to guess... to reveal the aesthetic character of a place (the image that we see in a magazine, or book, or online, but also the topographical map are great "dream providers" and play an essential role when choosing destinations).
To project myself... to draw my own path. And once I'm on the field, to tack... to browse... to prospect... to explore... until I have a good and detailed mental image of the territory. Pure geographic curiosity. To which is added the assurance of finding, by listening, searching in the space, hidden gems.
Let's take Iceland as an example: at the same time vast and limited, incredibly rich topographically, this country is perfect for a "profound" journey. There, more than anywhere else, I zigzag, tack, climb, walk on the edges, approach the heart of the lava flows and of the canyons. Since that is where the soul of a territory is!
In Iceland, and actually everywhere, I am excited by the intimate knowledge of the terrain. And this is as well what my pictures will show.

I’m extremely happy with the ease with which I could book via your site reliable and experienced guide. Thank you so very much, and I’ve started to recommend your site to my friends. Dimitris is not only an awesome guide, but a wonderful person who was always looking out to give me the best experience I can have when he found out how much I love climbing! He is the Best!
I am very pleased with Explore-Share! This was my first international climb, and the communication and response time were great. Herbie is a very skilled guide and very efficient. The entire booking process & payment was smooth. I will definitely use Explore-Share again. Thank you.
I was looking for a local guide for a hike I was planning and came across Explore-Share. They seemed to have good reviews and so decided to give them a try. The experience was very positive and completely happy with their service. I will be using them again for next trip.
Easy to set up and find the perfect trip. Informative site that is easy to use. Guides are all great to work with and communicate all arrangements needed. As simple as can be!
Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
