Description

A fairly straightforward Normal Route, yet engaging enough to go beyond the definition of simple hiking.

The 'Stone King' is the iconic mountain of the Cuneo Alps. A prominent feature of the Piedmontese panorama and beyond, already defined by the ancient Romans as 'Mons Vesulus' (visible mountain), it stands out on the horizon, unmistakable, across the western Alpine arc.

This is a long ascent that passes by the Rifugio Sella and then crosses the Colle delle Sagnette and the south face of the mountain.

We will depart from the Rifugio at dawn, ascending to the Passo delle Sagnette along a steep route equipped with chains. From the pass, we descend into the upper Vallone delle Forciolline to quickly reach the base of the south face of Monviso, near the Bivacco Andreotti.

The final 500 meters of ascent follow an interesting route that alternates fun rock sections with traverses and hanging snowfields.

The view from the summit is magnificent! A destination to reach for all mountain lovers.
