Description

Mont Blanc (4,810 m), a granitic mountain surrounded by valleys and glaciers, is the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe and a challenge for mountaineers all over the world.

I propose a 3-day ascent through a classic but demanding route: Les Trois Monts (The Three Monts).

This unique 3-day trip will start at Courmayeur, Italy, a fairytale-like small town in the Aosta Valley. From that point, we will travel to the mountain town of Chamonix, France, to ride the Aiguille Du Midi cable car (3,842 m). Then, we will descend to our shelter for the night, the Cosmiques Hut (3,613 m).

The following day, we will get to the top of the Mont Blanc du Tacul, and climb the Col Maudit, located right at the border between Italy and France, at 4,465 m. Then, we will reach the Col de la Brenva and the Mur de la Cote, to finish at a massive and amazing oasis: the Mont Blanc.

This is a technical ascent that requires previous experience in climbing and the use of ice axes and crampons. Almost all the itinerary is glacial and a few brief sections are steep. Therefore, it is essential to be fit and have some experience in mountain climbing.

Ready to take on the challenge? Book your place — and I’ll make sure this becomes an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting and preparation

We’ll meet in the morning in Chamonix, France. After a gear check and trip briefing, we’ll ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car (3,842 m). From there, we’ll descend to the Cosmiques Hut or the Torino Hut, depending on conditions and logistics.

That same day, we’ll do a short but technical ascent or glacier training, depending on the weather and mountain conditions.

Dinner and overnight at the hut.

Day 2: Acclimatization and skills training

This day is dedicated to acclimatization and technical preparation. Depending on conditions, we’ll either conduct a glacier training session or do a short, non-committing technical climb to refine rope work, crampon techniques, and movement on steep snow and ice.

The goal is to be fully ready for the summit push.

Dinner and overnight again at the Cosmiques Hut.

Day 3: Summit via Trois Monts & Descent via Goûter Route

We’ll start our ascent in the early hours of the night via the Les Trois Monts route. This is a true alpine climb, involving glacier travel, steep snow slopes, and breathtaking scenery.

The route crosses from France into Italy and back again, weaving through cols, faces, and high ridgelines, all leading us to the summit of Mont Blanc (4,810 m) — a vast and unforgettable viewpoint high above the Alps.

After a short rest on the summit, we’ll begin the descent into the valley. We return to Chamonix in the evening, where the program ends.

Good to Know This is a technical ascent that requires good physical condition and confidence with crampons and ice axe use. The route is almost entirely glaciated, with some steeper sections. Previous mountaineering experience is essential.

FAQs

Why is there an assessment day?

The Trois Monts route is more technical and physically demanding than other common Mont Blanc routes. To ensure your safety and maximize your summit chances, Day 1 is designed as a training and assessment day, giving the guide time to evaluate your ability to handle the conditions ahead. If necessary, the guide will propose a safer alternative route (e.g., via Goûter). This flexible approach ensures the experience remains positive, challenging, and, above all, safe.

Mountain Guide

Mountains are an important part of my life. All my interests in life are somehow connected with mountains. I have been working with people in the mountains since 2013. From the very beginning as a mountaineering and downhill skiing instructor, and since 2020 as a licensed mountain guide. I work on mountaineering, freeride and ski tourism programs. I live in Chamonix, and I work in different mountain regions, depending on the season.

Maksim was very friendly and well-organized. He had very good knowledge about Mont Blanc and mountains in general, the gear and how to handle Grand Couloir. We always felt safe climbing with him and would gladly join him for another climb in the future.4
