Formerly known as the Kingdom of Lo, the Upper Mustang Region lies north of the Kagbeni Village in the Annapurna Region. And the history here is as rich as its culture, just like the sceneries are as beautiful as its people. The trek will take place through an arid, almost treeless landscape, with strong winds throughout the day, that get quiet at night, creating a mystical atmosphere hard to compare.
In the 14th century, it was attached to Tibet, greatly influencing it. But it kept its autonomous identity as a dynasty for centuries to come, as a wall protected the city and its King. Due to this unique isolating situation, it is one of the places where the culture of Tibet still prevails. So their traditional lifestyle remains intact in many ways. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until 1964 that the first person from the west could visit. And even to this day, it still requires special permits. Hence, trekking across the Mustang is a true privilege that few foreigners get.
Here you’ll find 14th century monasteries very well preserved, with stunning Buddhist shrines and dazzling architecture. You’ll walk its paths as those that walked them a long time ago. You will discover colors, sights, scents and flavors you probably won’t find anywhere else in the world. And you’ll be accompanied by the views of magnificent mountains all around you.
Don’t miss out the chance of being one of the few foreigners that have ever had the opportunity to trek across the Mustang Region. Send me a message and let me take you to this magical place!
