Traditional climbing is an amazing way to rock climb because it is more dependent on the natural formation of the chosen rock wall. And on this 3-day trip, I would like to guide you through a traditional climbing course in different spots in Belgium with the help of friends, which are an incredibly useful type of climbing anchor.
Much will be covered during this 3-day course. Some examples include equipment usage, estimation of the reliability of anchors in place, correct placement of jammers, how to use natural anchors, relays on doubtful anchoring (2 to 4 points), route planning and strategy and much more. And because this course takes place on actual cliffs like Beez, Goyet and Dave, you will get to immediately practice what you learn.
In order to participate on this trip, you should be able to climb in the lead at a 5b level. You should also be able to climb autonomously. You should also be in good physical condition.
Traditional climbing is a thrilling way to scale rock walls. However, it is important to know how to do it properly. That is why I believe this 3-day course will help anybody who wants to learn about traditional climbing. To join me on this course, please send me a request.
I also offer a 2 day rescue course at the Grands Malades, which you can enjoy here.

Ivan was an excellent guide. His experience and passion for bouldering was obvious and his teaching was tailored specifically to my (beginner) and my sons (intermediate) levels. I enjoyed how he brought his life insights and philosophy to the sessions. Also he was good fun to be with. Highly recommended.

Ivan guided our 14 year old son, who is an indoor boulder climber, for his first real outdoor climbing experience in the forests around Fontainebleau. Ivan was a patient and encouraging teacher with our son, stressing how he could be more efficient in his climbing and showing him how to read and approach the beautiful sandstone boulders. We honestly could not have asked for a better guide and experience. I know those days will be a wonderful lifelong memory for all of us. Highly recommended.

Ivan was a great guide for climbing around Fontainbleau. Due to the recent wildfires, many areas were closed for climbing. I’ve been able to find an area that was open. He picked us up from the train stop as we were visiting from USA and drove us to the forest climbing area. His knowledge of the area and explanation of the French grading system was very helpful and informative he provided great beta for outdoor bouldering as my kids and I mostly boulder indoor. Very good English.
