Description

I will take you to the mountains between Kosovo, Macedonia, and Albania on an unforgettable wild Balkans ski touring adventure. This territory is still unexplored for skiing, untouched by any tourist development in winter.

In February 2016, I went to explore the valleys in Kosovo and Macedonia. As a result, I discovered a great village-to-village ski tour. There are no hostels or shelters here: accommodation is arranged directly with the local people in small hamlets nestled in the heart of the mountains. Since then, I have guided groups of enthusiastic skiers to this wild and remote area. Now, it is your turn to find the passages between the valleys, the passes, and the summits of the gorgeous Balkans. The forecast: great moments of exploration ahead.

The Sharr Mountains are intertwined between Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania. The most spectacular of them is a prolonged peak-to-peak ridge line between Kosovo and Albania, where Mount Korab´s summit, 2,756 meters high –the highest in the massif– awaits us at the end of the journey. The summit also marks the border between Albania and Macedonia and is surrounded by an excellent skiing area. We will sleep in a combination of mountain hotels, local mountain houses and one night in a hotel in Pristina, Kosovo’s capital.

Keep in mind that this week-long trip requires a good skiing and fitness level. We will be climbing between 800 and 1,500 meters a day. But the massif is vast and it will always be possible to ski an extra slope! It is easy to do 2,500 meters more.

Would you like to be a part of this off-road adventure? Then I invite you to contact me and book your spot today.

Itinerary

Day 1: France -> Pristina -> Radomire

An international flight with an early morning departure will take us to Pristina, Kosovo´s capital city. Transfer to the foot of Mount Korab. Night in a small inn where we all sleep in the same room.

Day 2: Mount Korab

Ascent of the highest peak in Albania and Macedonia. Only a magnificent view from the top.
Night in Radomire in a small inn where we all sleep in the same room

Day 3: Radomire - Petit Korab - Restelice

Ascent of Petit Mont Korab. Then transfer to the small lost village of Restellice.
Night in the village of Restellice.

Day 4: Restelicce - Brod

Superb crossing through the mountains between these 2 villages. The distance is not long but the summit possibilities are incredible.
Night in the village of Brod

Day 5: Brod - Manastiricë - Prizren

An incredible stage on the crete. Long but where you can easily escape to other villages if the weather or conditions do not allow the crossing. In the evening we all discover the charm of the middle-aged town of Prizren. Night in a hostel in Prizren

Day 6: Prizren - Col de Prevalla

By a short transfer, we reach the Col de Prevalla. From there we put on our skis for a superb summit, the Jezero.
Night in the inn at the Prevalla pass.

Day 7: Brezowica

By a short transfer we reach Brezwica. Small ski resort set up in the early 80s with the aim of helping the Sarajovo Olympics if there was a lack of snow. Finally the station was not used at that time. Today it is a small paradise because only a chairlift serves a multitude of summits. The mountain ski terrain is amazing. You can go to the crests then switch to Macedonia and climb to another summit before being picked up further.
Night in a chalet in Brezowica.

Day 8: Brezowica - Pristina

A last day of skiing in Brezowica before reaching Pristina in 1 hour by road for a final evening.
Night at the hotel.

Day 9: Pristina

Return on an early morning flight.
