Would you like to experience an unforgettable mountaineering expedition in the Andes? Then come to Mendoza and join me for an 7-day trip: let’s reach the top of Cerro Vallecitos together!
Vallecitos (5550m) is one of the highest peaks of Cordon del Plata, a group of mountains that are part of the front range of the Andes. Located at about an hour drive away from Mendoza, this mountain is very accessible and is a classic high-altitude climb for first timers. Many mountaineers come here as part of the acclimatization before climbing Aconcagua.
For this exciting experience, we will meet in Mendoza City and get transferred to Vallecitos town. During the ascent, we will explore a varied terrain and discover breathtaking views of the Andes. Furthermore, we will sleep in charming mountain huts and camps where we will taste delicious local food!
Keep in mind that this 8-day expedition does not require previous mountaineering experience. However, you will need a good fitness level to deal with the high altitudes!
So, if you are up for this awesome 7-day mountaineering trip near Mendoza, please get in touch with me. Let me guide you to the summit of the impressive Cerro Vallecitos, in Cordon del Plata!
If you prefer shorter adventures, check out my 4-day ascent to Adolfo Calle and Stepanek.
Meeting point
Pick-up in Mendoza (hotel or airport) and transfer to Potrerillos for a traditional barbecue and group introduction. We continue to the mountain area at 2,600 m, where we stay in the refuge and begin to feel the altitude.
Early start for an acclimatization hike and gear load carry to Veguitas Superior camp (3,400 m). A key day to adapt to altitude, practice pacing, and fine-tune equipment before returning to the refuge to rest.
We leave the comfort of the refuge and head into the mountain. A steady ascent leads us to our first overnight camp under the stars. From this point on, we sleep in tents and fully enter expedition mode.
A challenging and strategic day. After breaking camp and distributing loads, we move deeper into high-altitude terrain, crossing from green landscapes into rock, ice, and snow. We establish camp and rest in tents for the night.
A lighter day for recovery, hydration, and mental preparation. Some may take short walks while others rest and enjoy the surroundings. Focus is on conserving energy for summit day.
Early departure from high camp for the summit push. We ascend at a steady pace to reach 5,470 m, rewarded with expansive views from the top. A long descent follows, returning to the lower camp.
Breakfast, pack up, and descend back to the refuge. After a shower and rest, we continue the transfer to Mendoza. A calm finish to reflect on the expedition.
More info
Please bring appropriated clothing and footwear, backpack, sun protection, water, snacks and personal documentation / Children under 14 are not allowed.
What experience and how fit do I need to be to climb this mountain? Is this program suitable for children or older people?
It is an excellent experience to begin in the height of the Andes since we will sleep two nights in a refuge with all the basic comforts, and then every night will be in a tent
What is the best time of the year to climb this mountain?
All year round it is possible depending on your experience and what you are looking for. If you want snow all year round, if you prefer a warmer climate, I recommend from September to April or May, it will depend on the first snowfall.
What is the guide-to-client ratio to climb this mountain?
One guide for every three passengers, in this case for the summit day I recommend hiring an assistant guide. From passenger 4 to passenger 6, an assistant guide will come with us throughout the trip.
How far in advance should I start training and what kind of training do you suggest?
To ensure you are well-prepared for the challenges of climbing mountains, I strongly recommend maintaining a regular training regimen of at least three sessions per week. Focus on building your endurance and strength through a variety of exercises. Incorporate activities such as hiking, running, cycling, or stair climbing to improve your cardiovascular fitness and prepare your body for sustained physical exertion.
Will there be porters to help to carry group and personal equipment?
Yes, but they will only carry 20 kg of group equipment for the altitude camp and then for the refuge. The rest of the group equipment and staff must be carried by each member of the expedition. If you want to hire the porter service, you must pay for it privately.
Are there any other special requirements such as permits/insurance/vaccines that we need to consider before the tour?
They must also have a medical insurance service, are paid outside the expedition.
Can I join a group?
Yes, I wait for you to join the proposed dates!
Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment, and if so, what would be the approximate cost of that?
yes, you can rent all de equipment
How will accommodation and meals be handled on the mountain?
During the entire expedition, we will be camping in tents in the mountains. However, before or after the expedition, you will have the opportunity to luxuriate in the comfort of a hotel in Mendoza capital. Are meals while in the mountain are included in this trip.
What happens in the event of bad weather?
In case of bad weather, the extra days will be used. In the event that bad weather puts the health of someone in the group at risk, we will wait at the base camp. If it is not possible to continue for safety reasons, the trip will be suspended. I will always look for a way to reach the top and continue the journey within safety parameters.
