The Cordillera Huayhuash is the second tallest tropical mountain range in the world. So this trek is undoubtedly one of the best hikes on Earth! Don’t miss out the opportunity to explore this wonderful place on this 9 day trek.
Located in the Peruvian Andes, the Cordillera Huayhuash is surrounded by magnificent mountains and ice towers that look like long standing guardians of this magical area.
Moreover, the pristine rivers, lakes and lagoons with different colors and shades here are simply hypnotizing. Thus, the scenery over its more than 30 kilometers is incomparable.
Some of the passes we’ll go through are Paso de Carhuac (4,650m), Carnicero (4,660m), Portachuelo de Huayhuash (4,750m), Punta Tapush (4,750m) and Punta Yaucha (4,800m).
Additionally, we will explore some of the most dazzling lakes in the world! Some of them are: Laguna Carhuacocha (4,250m) and Laguna Carnicero. Amongst many other mesmerizing bodies of water, I will also take you Lake Laguna Vinconga. Here you’ll find hot springs, where you can take a refreshing and soothing hot bath.
Please note this a challenging trek because of the altitude of 4,600 to 5,000 meters. So for you to take part of it, you have to be in good shape. However, each stage will be short, approximately 13 to 15 kilometers. Therefore, you’ll have plenty of time for acclimatization.
My main goal is that you to enjoy everything about this trip, while being completely safe.
So if you have any questions, or wish to take part on this adventure, don’t hesitate on contacting me. Please send me a request and I’ll make sure you get to see most of the beautiful spots in the Peruvian Andes!
If you are looking for a longer trip, I also guide this: 15 day trek in the same area.
A vehicle will take you from Huaraz to Llamac. Then we’ll head to Matacancha. We’ll set camp on that lovely and grassy valley.
Matacancha-Cacanan Punta-Lake Mitucocha
We’ll begin early so we cross the Punta Cacanan pass. Later we’ll descend to Lake Laguna Muticocha to camp there for the night.
Lake Mitucocha-Carhuac-Lake Carhuacocha
First, we will begin our day crossing Paso de Carhuac. Secondly, we’ll head to yet another stunning lake: Laguna Carhuacocha to set camp.
I will take you through pass Carnicero. Then we can choose: either descent to a remote area where the Laguna Carnicero is, or follow a short trail to the enclave of Huayhuash
On this day we’ll climb Portachuelo de Huayhuash. Afterwards we’ll explore Lake Laguna Viconga, and if you are up for it we can visit the nearby hot springs.
Today we’ll get to the highest pass, Punta Cuyoc. Later we’ll descent to the valley Quebrada Huanacpatay, and then head to our camp.
We will trek down Quebrada Huanacpatay, and then head back up to Huatiac so we camp there.
Since we have planned to climb two passes today, it will be a challenging day. We’ll get to Pass Punta Tapush and then Punta Yaucha. Then, we’ll go to laguna Jahucocha.
Lake Jahuacocha-Pass Pampa Llamac
Even if it’s our last day, we still have amazing places to explore. We’ll climb Pass Pampa Llamac and descent to Llamac, where a bus will be waiting for us to take you back to Huaraz.
