Description

Located in the Huascaran National Park, the Nevado Mateo (5,150m), also known as the Contrahierbas, is a great mountain in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru. Furthermore, it is a mountain you can climb in just one day.

Our journey will begin early in the morning, at approximately 3:30 am in Huaraz. From there, we will venture to the Quebrada Ulta and then the Tunel Punta Olimpica (4,750m). After that, we will climb for approximately one and a half hours to the summit of the Nevado Mateo. From the summit, you will get to enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding peaks under the morning sun, including Chopicalqui, Huascaran, Ulta and more. Afterwards, we will descend the peak and return to Huaraz.

While not a technically difficult climb, there are some tough spots. However, we will professionally and carefully guide you through. And, while participants on this trip don’t have to be climbing experts, you should be in good physical condition.

To climb to the summit of a 5,000 meter plus peak in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru is a great way to spend a day. To join us on this unforgettable adventure to the summit of the Nevado Mateo, please send a request. We have no doubt you’ll have a great time.
