Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, our office representative will greet you and escort you to the hotel. If you arrive in the morning or during the day, you will have free time after checking in to the hotel.

In the evening, our senior guide will meet you to provide a brief orientation about the Annapurna Base Trek. Following the orientation, you will be taken to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Your stay at the hotel will include breakfast.

Day 2: Journey to Pokhara

After enjoying breakfast, we depart from Kathmandu at 7 am and head towards Pokhara via the Prithivi highway. The journey to Pokhara typically takes around 7-8 hours, with a lunch stop in Malekhu, renowned for its river fish.

Alternatively, you have the option to take a scenic flight from Kathmandu's domestic airport to Pokhara at an additional cost. This day's travel offers ample opportunities to witness terraced fields, rivers, streams, lush valleys, steep canyons, farmlands, and traditional Nepalese rural life.

Upon reaching Pokhara after nearly 8 hours of travel, you will be transferred to your hotel. You can take a leisurely walk around Pokhara's lakeside area and explore its diverse and delightful culinary offerings, as well as enjoy the various evening performances such as dances and musicals.

Day 3: Trek to Jhinu Danda

Following a satisfying breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a private car journey to Nayapul, which takes approximately 1 hour and showcases the beauty of the surrounding villages. Nayapul serves as the starting point for the Ghorepani and Annapurna base camp trek.

Upon arrival at Nayapul, our trek commences through Birethanti, leading us along a trail that winds through picturesque villages, verdant forests, a breathtaking Kempty waterfall, an exhilarating suspension bridge, and stone steps alongside the Modi River, culminating in our arrival at Jhinu Danda.

Jhinu Danda is renowned for its natural hot springs, where we can indulge in a soothing natural hot bath to rejuvenate our weary muscles. Additionally, the captivating vistas of Mt. South Annapurna, Hinchuli, and Fishtail contribute to an even more tranquil stay at Jhinu Danda.

Day 4: Bamboo Lodge

Today's trek entails ascending the steep path leading to Chhomrong village in the initial phase. As the largest local settlement along the route, Chhomrong offers a significant stop on our journey. The trail then descends via a stone staircase and spans the Chhomrong River. Continuing the ascent on a rocky trail (mind the stinging nettles), we eventually arrive at Sinuwa, situated at an elevation of 2350m.

Following this, you descend along a lengthy, steep stone staircase amidst dense oak, bamboo, and rhododendron forests. Afterward, a brief stretch along a muddy trail leads to the Bamboo Lodge at an altitude of 2340m, where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Machhapuchre Base Camp

Today's journey involves a rather lengthy hike to Machhapuchre Base Camp, but the awe-inspiring vistas of the Annapurna range, which includes Fishtail, Hinchuli, Gangapurna, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, and II, will undoubtedly make it all worthwhile.

We commence our trek with a gradual ascent through dense bamboo, rhododendron, and oak forests. Crossing a small bridge over the Modi Khola, we continue our climb through the expansive, boulder-strewn glacial valley.

The landscape around Machhapuchhre undergoes a noticeable transformation as the vegetation becomes sparser, primarily comprising upland rhododendron. After once again crossing the Modi Khola and following it for a stretch, we begin the ascent to Machhapuchhre Base Camp, where we will spend the night at a lodge.

Day 6: Trek to Annapurna base camp

Today, we embark on our trek early in the morning, at around 4 AM, to witness the awe-inspiring sunrise from the Annapurna Base Camp. The trail leads us through the alpine forest, and after a brief trek, we approach the Annapurna Base Camp at an elevation of 4,130m. From this vantage point, you can revel in the panoramic views of several peaks, each one remarkably clear.

The striking vistas here will etch vivid images in your memory for years to come. Upon reaching the Annapurna Base Camp, we will take some time to rest and capture photographs before descending to Dovan.

Day 7: Trek to Jhinu Danda

The route descends to Bamboo, meandering through forests adorned with a rich variety of rhododendrons, oaks, and bamboo plants. After Bamboo, the trail ascends steeply to Kuldi Ghar, and from there, it becomes relatively flat until we arrive at Sinuwa.

We then continue our trek, gradually descending to the Chhomrong River, followed by a challenging ascent up a stone staircase that seems never-ending for nearly an hour until we reach Chomrong.

The final stretch of the trail involves a steep descent to Jhinu Danda. Upon reaching the town, a 20-minute walk leads to the Hot Springs located on the banks of the Modi River. Here, you can relax and rejuvenate your body with a soothing hot bath, and then spend the night at the lodge.

Day 8: Explore Nayapul

After breakfast today, we will trek down to Nayapul and then proceed with a drive to Pokhara. The hike to Nayapul offers delightful vistas of the beautiful landscapes along the trail. We will pause for a leisurely lunch along the way.

After approximately 5 hours, we will arrive at Nayapul and take a break before boarding our vehicle for the journey to Pokhara, which takes about an hour. We will spend the night at our hotel, with breakfast included.

Day 9: Return to Kathmandu

Start your day in Pokhara with breakfast at your hotel. Afterward, head to the tourist bus park for a scenic 7-hour drive to Kathmandu. Take in the diverse landscapes and picturesque views along the banks of the Marshyangdi and Trishuli rivers, immersing yourself in the beauty of the journey.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can relax and contemplate the experiences of your trip. This road trip offers a mix of comfort and adventure, allowing you to appreciate Nepal's beauty as you transition from Pokhara to the lively city of Kathmandu.

Day 10: Departure day

Following breakfast on our final day in Kathmandu, our vehicle and escorts will be ready to accompany you to the international airport, ensuring you arrive three hours before our scheduled flight homeward.

At Glorious Adventure, it has been a great honor to meet you, and we wish you a safe journey home. We will cherish the wonderful times we spent together. Bon Voyage! We hope to see you again someday.

FAQs

How challenging is the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, and is prior trekking experience necessary?

The ABC Trek is considered moderate and relatively easier compared to more strenuous treks in the Everest, Manaslu, and Kanchenjunga regions. Experienced trekkers or those accustomed to long-distance backpacking may find the trek easier, while novice trekkers could view it as more challenging.

However, individuals from various backgrounds and fitness levels, with or without prior trekking experiences, can undertake this trek. The daily uphill trekking on steep and rocky paths typically requires 4 to 5 hours, covering 7 to 10 km daily for 10-15 days.

Despite the physical demands, the rewarding views and experiences make the effort worthwhile. The gradual elevation gain helps reduce the risk of altitude sickness, and well-maintained trails contribute to a more manageable trekking experience.

The trek's difficulty can also be influenced by factors such as the chosen trekking season and the weight of the carried load.

Is training necessary for this trek?

In addition to a strong desire and patience, good stamina and strength are essential as the trek will push your endurance and resilience to the limit. Therefore, consider incorporating pre-trek workouts a few weeks beforehand to focus on enhancing your physical strength.

Is it necessary to have insurance for this trek?

While travel insurance is not mandatory for the ABC trek, we always advise travelers to have insurance when journeying to high-altitude regions, as unpredictability is inherent in mountainous terrain. If you are fully insured, your policy will cover any additional expenses stemming from health issues, accidents, injuries (including helicopter rescue and medical expenses), and any other activities you plan to partake in during your visit to Nepal.

How will meals and accommodation be handled during the ABC trek?

During your ABC trek, you will overnight at the common local teahouses or lodges, which are the traditional form of trekking accommodation along the ABC trail. These establishments offer basic yet comfortable facilities including cozy rooms, western-style bathrooms, hot showers, and access to WIFI.

The teahouses provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options for hygienic and nutritious meals, allowing you to select your favorites from their menu.

At lower altitudes, a wider variety of cuisine, including Nepali, Indian, and Continental dishes, is available.

Throughout your journey, you can easily access tea, coffee, eggs, bakery products, snacks, and bars.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
