Experience a 6‑day Mont Blanc program with one legendary alpine goal: the Walker Spur on the Grandes Jorasses (4,208m) – one of the six great north faces of the Alps and a true trophy for experienced alpinists. Designed for advanced mountaineers comfortable on steep mixed ground and committed terrain. Build skills progressively from Rifugio Torino, with an acclimatization day to assess conditions and your level. If the Walker Spur is not feasible (due to weather, route conditions, or your guide’s evaluation), the program shifts to the long, exposed, and elegant Rochefort–Grandes Jorasses traverse as the primary alternative. Honest, guide‑led, and built entirely around your ability and safety.

This 6-day technical mountaineering program in the Mont Blanc massif combines progressive ridge climbs in the Torino sector with a major final objective: the Rochefort–Grandes Jorasses traverse – a long, technical, exposed, and elegant ridge itinerary.
It is designed for experienced mountaineers who are already comfortable with crampons, ice axe, and movement on mixed, exposed terrain. This is not an introductory trip, but a genuine progression where each day serves a clear purpose within the larger objective.
The first phase is based around Rifugio Torino, an excellent high-altitude starting point that gives direct access to the Glacier du Géant area. Over three days, the program develops acclimatization, rope-team coordination, glacier movement, and confidence on alpine ridges.
The opening day on Aiguilles Marbrées introduces real technical content from the start. On day two, the full traverse of Aiguille d’Entrèves increases the demand with a sustained and continuous route where balance, rhythm, and efficiency are essential. Day three, on Dent du Géant or the Rochefort ridge, serves as the key assessment day and helps confirm readiness for the final traverse.
From there, the program moves naturally toward the Walker Spur, building directly on the skills and experience gained in the Torino sector.
What makes this program distinctive is its honest relationship with the mountain. It does not promise a summit in advance; instead, it relies on the guide’s assessment, the weather, and the real condition of the massif. That flexibility is not a weakness, but a sign of seriousness, responsibility, and good judgment.
This is a trip built around progression, continuous evaluation, and a final objective adapted to the actual level of the rope team. Its value lies not only in reaching a summit, but in choosing the right line, the right moment, and the right ambition for the mountain in front of you.
Because conditions vary year to year, and your guide will assess your level during the acclimatization day, the Walker Spur may not always be feasible. In that case, your guide may propose the Grandes Jorasses traverse via the Rochefort Ridge as the best alternative.

Meeting point
Meet in Courmayeur and take the Skyway Monte Bianco to Punta Helbronner, then continue to Rifugio Torino. The first ridge day includes glacier travel, snow-to-rock transitions, roped movement, and terrain reading. It is more than a warm-up, as it already allows the guide to assess pace, technique, and confidence in the alpine environment, with Aiguilles Marbrées as the day’s objective.
Accommodation: Rifugio Torino Meals: Dinner
A sustained, airy, and highly instructive day from Torino across the Glacier du Géant toward Col d’Entrèves. Glacier, mixed, and rock terrain combine along a ridge where rope-team flow, balance, and efficiency matter more than any single move. It is an important test of consistency and composure.
Accommodation: Rifugio Torino Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
The third major day of the first section and a key moment to refine the plan. By now, the guide will have a fairly clear idea of the client’s technical level, mountain experience, and what may be realistic for the next stage. If the Walker Spur still remains a possible objective, the day may be spent on either Dent du Géant or the Rochefort ridge, depending on conditions and the type of technical assessment desired.
If the Walker Spur is ruled out because of level or conditions and the full traverse planned for Days 4 and 5 is chosen, the focus will be on Dent du Géant, leaving Rochefort as the natural starting point for that traverse. In either case, the day ends back at Rifugio Torino.

Option A
If the full traverse is selected, the program continues logically from the previous days in the Torino sector. Starting from Rifugio Torino, this is no longer just an approach but the first major stage of the traverse: gaining the Rochefort ridge, crossing Aiguille de Rochefort, continuing over Dôme de Rochefort, and reaching Bivouac Canzio at Col des Grandes Jorasses.
This is a long, exposed, and serious day, with constantly changing terrain. Snow, mixed ground, and rock are linked together in a setting where movement quality and the ability to maintain rhythm for many hours are essential. It calls for precision on exposed sections, efficient rope work, strong terrain reading, and careful time management, since success depends on the whole route rather than one difficult move. Spending the night at Bivouac Canzio provides a strategic position and prepares the following day with a lighter pack.
Accommodation: Bivouac Canzio Meals: Self-catering
Option A
An early departure from Bivouac Canzio to tackle the great traverse of the Grandes Jorasses. The route follows the high ridge connecting several four-thousand-meter summits before reaching Pointe Walker, always on very exposed and sustained terrain. It is an almost uninterrupted day in which every section demands full concentration, precise movement, and careful pacing, as any delay becomes costly on such a long itinerary with a descent still ahead.
This option is more of a ridge journey than a wall ascent. The challenge comes from the combination of ridges, mixed steps, rock sections, snow, and the need to keep moving fluidly for many hours along a committed line. Weather, ridge conditions, and overall time become decisive throughout the day.
Once the traverse is complete, a long and complex descent follows on the Italian side, usually toward Boccalatte and then down to the valley. If conditions cooperate, this is a powerful finish to the program and likely the most natural continuation of the progression built from Torino.
The extra day is an essential part of the program. It allows room to absorb delays caused by conditions, adjust the final strategy, manage a long descent, or complete the ascent more safely. At this level, that reserve is not optional—it significantly improves the chances of a safe and successful outcome.
Accommodation
During the trip, we will stay at Rifugio Torino, a classic high-mountain refuge above Courmayeur in the Mont Blanc massif, with direct access to glacial terrain and ideal access for ski touring and alpine ascents.
On Day 4, the overnight stop will be in Refuge de Leschaux, depending on the route chosen.
Disclaimer
The program is designed to adapt to conditions, weather, strategy, and the final route choice. It is intentionally flexible, as objectives of this level require constant adjustment to maximize success while maintaining the safety of the rope team.
Weather plays a critical role in this program. For that reason, a sixth reserve day is included to adapt the plan, wait for a favorable window, or complete the descent if needed. On a mountain like the Grandes Jorasses, timing and conditions are just as important as technical ability.
More info
This program is intended for mountaineers with prior summer alpine experience, including movement with crampons and ice axe, and confidence on mixed, exposed terrain. It is not suitable for complete beginners. The final section is significantly more demanding, where endurance, pace, and altitude recovery become especially important.
Arriving already acclimatized is strongly advised. While the itinerary is designed to build altitude progressively, starting with a solid base will help you manage long days more effectively and stay fresh for the key stages.
Bring waterproof and breathable outerwear, including a Gore-Tex jacket and rain pants, plus warm layers such as a down or Primaloft jacket, fleece, thermal base layers, trekking pants, and spare clothes.
For climbing, you will need crampons, a harness, three carabiners, a 120 cm sling, an ice axe, and a helmet; if needed, this gear can be rented in Chamonix.
Also pack a cap, wool hat, neck gaiter, ski mask, gloves, merino socks, mountaineering boots, gaiters if required, a 30-liter backpack, and a small bag for documents. For refuges, bring a silk sleeping bag liner and earplugs.
Do not forget a headlamp, sunscreen, lip balm, water bottle or thermos, snacks, travel documents, first aid items, a thermal blanket, and charging essentials.
