    Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the mountains

Upon arrival in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, you will meet your guide and begin the journey toward Jyrgalan. The transfer itself is a highlight, crossing a country where over 90% of the landscape is mountainous.

The route follows the shores of the iconic Issyk-Kul Lake and runs beneath the impressive peaks of the Tien Shan range. Once in Jyrgalan, you’ll settle into a comfortable guesthouse and enjoy a warm dinner featuring traditional local cuisine.

Day 2 to 3: Avalanche training and local ski touring

The first days focus on building a solid foundation with avalanche safety training, helping you gain confidence and move safely in the backcountry.

Afterward, you’ll start exploring nearby ski touring routes. The Jyrgalan Valley benefits from a protected setting, shielded from strong winds by surrounding peaks, which creates a favorable microclimate with reliable snowfall, good weather, and enjoyable skiing conditions.

Day 4 to 6: Ski touring in remote terrain

With acclimatization underway and familiarity with the terrain, the program shifts toward more remote areas with greater vertical gain. Accessed by snowmobile, these untouched zones offer pristine snow and a true sense of isolation.

Each day presents multiple descent options, with wide-open landscapes and exceptional views.

Throughout, you’ll be guided by an experienced professional who knows the terrain and selects the best lines based on conditions.

Day 7: Final ski tour and return to Bishkek

The day begins with one last backcountry ski tour to make the most of your final runs. Afterward, you’ll return to Bishkek, where you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy a farewell dinner.

If time and energy allow, you can take a short walk through the city to experience its atmosphere.

    Day 8: Departure

Your guide will accompany you to the airport for your departure. You’ll leave Kyrgyzstan with a deep connection to its winter landscapes and a memorable backcountry experience in the Tien Shan mountains.

Equipment you will need to bring

For this trip, you should bring appropriate winter and ski touring gear. For equipment, you’ll need a full ski touring setup, including skis or splitboard, poles, helmet, goggles, sunglasses, avalanche safety gear, a touring backpack, and a duffel bag.

Additional essentials include a thermos, headlamp, personal first aid kit, sunscreen, hygiene items, and all necessary travel documents.

Ski Touring in Karakol: Thanks for the Best Freeride Weekend! We went ski touring in the Karakol area (Kyrgyzstan) in January. I want to give a special thanks to our guide, Dmitry. This was my first ski tour in Kyrgyzstan, and I was a little nervous. But the guide did everything he could to make the trip perfect. What I liked: 1. Professionalism. He knows the terrain around Karakol perfectly. We didn't waste time searching for the "right" snow; from the very first day, we skied only on high-quality, safe slopes. 2.Safety. He constantly monitored the avalanche situation, took readings from the test blocks (he always let us try them ourselves, and explained the physics of snow). The group was confident that we were on the right route. 3. Adaptation to the group. One of us was going slowly, so the guide didn't rush ahead, but patiently waited for the one lagging behind. The faster guys didn't get bored either—he let them speed up on the descents on the safe shoulders. 4.Logistics. He helped with transfers from Bishkek and knows the best houses in Karakol (the flatbreads and tea were a lifesaver after long hikes). Who would recommend him to: ski touring beginners and experienced freeriders. The snow in Kyrgyzstan is incredible: powder, sun, and no people. The guide completely captured the region. Thank you so much, we'll definitely be back!
