Would you like to discover an amazing and unexplored volcano in the Bolivian Andes? Then join one of our guides on a unique ascent to the top of Alto Toroni, a peak that anyone with a good fitness level can climb!
Alto Toroni boasts an altitude of 6002 m and is one of the lesser-known 6000m peaks in the Bolivian Andes. It is also called Sillajhuay which means “Devil’s chair” in the native Aymara tongue. Located between the Coipasa and Uyuni salt flats, it offers awe-inspiring views of both and has the advantage of being relatively easy to climb. Additionally, because it is a remote mountain that not many climb, you will be able to enjoy the stunning landscapes away from the crowds.
Because this is not a technical peak, you do not need to have mountaineering skills to join this program. However, you will need a good fitness level. Of course, we will be there every step of the way to help and guide you. You can find a detailed itinerary below.
So, are you ready for an exciting adventure to the top of a non-technical 6000m peak in the Bolivian Andes? Then book your place now and join us on an unforgettable Alto Toroni ascent.
Or, if you prefer, you can also join us on a Pomerape ascent starting from La Paz!
Meeting point
First, we will drive to the village of Llica crossing the Uyuni Salt Flats. We will pass the Chacoma and Belen villages. Then, we will set up camp on the foot of Sillajhuay (or Alto Toroni) volcano at 4735 m asl. / 15 534 feet.
We will leave the camp in the middle of the night. The vehicle will drop us off at 5510m where we start our ascent. We will reach the viewpoint at 5740 m. Then, we will continue for 2h30 before reaching the summit. On the way, we will catch amazing views of the Uyuni and Coipasa Salt flats. We will descent by the same route and return to Uyuni.

Tour Operator
Thaki Travel was founded in La Paz, Bolivia in 2011 by Anne BIALEK and Jérôme BENASSI, two adventurous friends, passionate about Bolivia and who fell in love with the kindness of the Bolivians.
During your trip in Bolivia, we will be all the time with you, we personally know all our co-workers from the receptionist of a hotel to a mule-driver of the Cordillera Real.
We like to explore and innovate. Every year, we invest in field expeditions to open new routes and build new original itineraries for our clients. We focus on building strong friendships with local communities giving us privileged contacts and access to off the beaten tracks, like the north part of the Cordillera Real where almost no one else goes.
We are very sensitive to responsible tourism. We have carried out several social actions to improve the lives of local communities and we build all our itineraries in a sustainably-driven approach.
We are very serious about altitude.
All our programs are carefully planned to comply with the acclimatization process, we have trained all our guides to Altitude sickness and we have a partnership with a French Institute about training and research in mountain medicine (Ifremmont). We are the only local travel agency that offers to their clients access to a medical platform (any client having health problems related to altitude can contact a specialized doctor 24/7 through our satellite phones)
We use high quality equipment for our treks and mountain expeditions: North Face VE25 tent (for 2 customers), .., IFMGA mountain guide for 2 customers (English speaking), Oxygen, oximeter, hyperbaric box, satellite phone.

I had a fantastic experience climbing with Thaki Voyage and guide Hugo Ayaviri in Bolivia. Anne with Thaki organized a great sightseeing trip in Bolivia that also served as acclimatization time the first week of our visit. We spend time in La Paz, Lake Titicaca, and a five day trip to southern Bolivia including Uyuni salt flats and Andina Eduardo Avaroa National Park. Incredibly scenic with lots of amazing views and wildlife sightings including flamingos, nandus, vicuñas, viscachas, condors, etc. followed by a week of climbing in Cordillera Real, including Peak Austria, Huyana Potosi and Illimani. Hugo is an outstanding guide and very experienced and safety minded. Overall great arrangement and I would highly recommend Hugo and Thaki Voyage.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
