Acotango

Jaime, IFMGA certified mountain guide, takes you to the top of the Acotango volcano, one of the volcanoes in the Sajama National Park, in the Central Andes.

4 Days

May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct

Description

The Acotango volcano lies in the border between Bolivia and Chile. It's part of the Sajama National Park, which hosts other high volcanoes as Sajama and Parinacota

I love guiding volcano ascents in the Sajama National Park. The environment in the heart of the Central Andes is unique, definitely worth a visit! Besides, on the Chilean side the region is protected by the Lauca National Park.

The first destination during this tour is Lagunas. It's a town not fat from the volcano, right outside the National Park. Then we will climb to the top of Acotango, on the second day. Besides, we will enjoy the wonderful hot springs.

Did you find this 4-day ascent tempting? Then please get in touch with me! Guiding you up to the Acotango volcano will be my pleasure.

About the guide

IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide from Bolivia.

I organize mountaineering and trekking trips in different regions of Bolivia, and community tourism as well. I spend my free time exploring new destinations and discovering new mountains and cultures in remote regions.

I have more than 20 years of experience working in Cordillera Real, and I live in Tuni, Condoriri. I worked as mule driver, porter, cook, trekking guide assistant, trekking guide, and finally became IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide in 2008.

I made several ascents in Bolivia and neighboring countries like Argentina, Chile and Peru. Some of them: Ojos de Salado, Wallatiri, Urus, Azangate, Huayna potosí, Illimani, Chir oco, Chachacomani, Sajama, Illamapu, Acohoma, Chapi orco, Acotango, Parinacota… These experiences prepared me to organize and guide expeditions.

I like to provide a top level service to people from all around the world, help them get in contact with the local culture, and of course help them reach their objectives in the mountains.

Absolutely wonderful to have a private guide for the mountain. Very attentive and answered all my questions before meeting (packing, equipment, timing, etc) He obviously knew the mountain well and was prepared for situations that required extra safety measures (rappelling down ice wall). The food on the trip was plentiful, delicious and safe. The hut accommodation was much more comfortable than a tent! Thank you.

Jaime was a great guide. He was friendly, showed a love for the terrain, and demonstrated clear interest that I have the best possible trek; he asked both before and during the trip which foods I would prefer, provided hot water bottles each night for my sleeping bag, and checked in frequently about my level of acclimatization. I knew I was in great hands.

We spent a few days with Jaime who is an awesome guide and personn. The organisation was perfect, equipment also. Talking about the food, we had never been eating so well during a trekk (fresh fruits, vegetables...). We even had the chance to spend a night at his place to meet his family who was happy to make us discover the alpagas and their daily life (and we even got a hot shower !) Jaime speaks very good French and English. We would totally recommand going with him and can't wait for a new trip there !

Jamie was an excellent guide and went out of his way to make sure everything was organized and went smoothly. He was flexible and worked hard which was particularly needed when my luggage did not arrive in time for the expedition. Thanks to him everything went smoothly. He was experienced on the mountain and went above and beyond both in safety and logistics.
